Not only is this month Women’s History Month, it also marks the 100th anniversary of 5,000 bad-ass chicks marching on Washington the day before the presidential inauguration to demand the right to vote. So just in case there were any doubts still lingering out there, let’s clear it up right now: Women RULE at activism and have been doing it for a really long time.
Need more proof? PETA, the largest animal rights organization in the world, was cofounded by a woman, is staffed by more women than men, and has had more female activists speak up for animals than any other organization out there. It’s no surprise that as a feminist and a woman, I came to work here!
It’s super-empowering to know that as women, we have the right to use our bodies and voices however we want—whether it’s to make a political statement or to speak up for those whose cries are ignored. Have you ever noticed that societies that make women cover themselves up the most are also the ones in which women are the most repressed? It’s our right to do what we want with our bodies, including engage in activism.
If you’re interested in following in the footsteps of some awesome ladies, make sure that your voice is heard! You can join our Street Team to get some great ideas on how you can help animals and really start making a difference. We promise we won’t ask you to burn your bra.
