Seals are cute, fluffy and ridiculously awesome, but sadly, this is the worst time of year to be a seal in Canada. We’re nearing the beginning of Canada’s annual seal slaughter in which thousands of seals (mostly babies) die for their fur. Hunters beat, shoot, and even hook seals through their eyes and cheeks, then drag them across the ice—sometimes skinning the pups while they’re still conscious. Now it seems Canada is also going to start selling seal meat to China in an effort to make up for lost profits, since everyone else in the world knows these horrifying deeds sound more like the plot to a zombie film than the act of sane humans.
Over the next few months, we’ll be giving you different ways to speak out against this cruelty and here’s our next one: We want you to use your homework to help seals. Homework (groan!) sucks, I know, but not when you’re speaking out against seals being bludgeoned to death. Here are some ideas to help get your minds in hero mode:

I have many friends who are Canadian and HATE this and try and speak out about it every year. Not ALL Canadians feel the same. That’s like saying that because some people torture animals in America we all do it. It’s simply not true. I do believe, however, that this is simply horrific and needs to end today. I gaurentee if this was a slaughter of human babies it would be different. I don’t see the difference. Killing a baby seal is killing a human newborn baby. I hope those people who do this die, and rot eternal hell. This kind of abuse should NEVER be condoned. This is not only in Canada, as you have said, but for now they are the most reasonable people. Canada and U.S are hand in hand so that is why we focuse on Canada first. Then we will get to other countries. Remember, it only takes a drop of water in a big sea to have so much of an impact. Starting small like this, then growing pretty soon there will be a flood of us.. Helping and saving all the animals. My heart breaks for these seals. I am going to try and get Fox News to report about this.. I know Meghan Kellys heart will break<3. Please write fox news, meghan kelly, and ask her to PLEASE do a report on this. (The reason for her is because she is a animal lover and her heart breaks for animals in situations like this.)

It is absoulutely absurd to know that in canada there are people that lack the knowledge to know that clubbing seals is NOT OKAY! I wrote a paper in language arts class about animal abuse and people were asking me alot of questions and it really opened there eyes to the insane things that go on under the radar that no one ever notices. SPREAD THE WORD!

I guess what I’m trying to get across is to take a step back from the horror of the act itself, and stop reacting so impulsively. It comes down to supply and demand, to put in to simple terms. Since I’m not seeing much change coming from my own government (the supplier), then I’m going to target other countries (the ones in demand of seal pelts/meat). From what I’ve heard, after the European Union took steps to ban the purchase of seal products, the industry went into a scramble trying to find a buyer for seal meat in order to make up for losses in sales. That seems like a far more effective step to me… but what do I know, I’m just a Canadian. And to the world that means a seal-clubbing monster

As a Canadian, I hate being blamed for the seal slaughter every year because of my nationality. You’d be surprised how few of us condone this act. Keep in mind, though comparatively larger, seal hunting is practiced in 5 other countries (Norway, Russia, Namibia, Greenland, and the Danish region). It is also noteworthy that our biggest market for seal pelts is Norway…
next largest being Germany, Greenland, and China. In fact Asia is the biggest market for seal meat exports.

I have writen so many reports about, KFC, McCruelty, the circus. I can’t wait to do one about the seal slaughter! I wil spread the word. And try not to be mad about it, when you are writing it think about the seals being slaughtered, and know that just by writing it, you will help save them.

This is so ridiculous! Canada is such a nice country, but aparently with a lot of stupid people in it! How they don’t realize the pain that they cause? How do the government and the other Canadians allow this madness happening right in front of them?? This got to stop!
