Thats no excuse. A lot of people are upset about things, but it doesn’t give them an excuse to go be ASBO scum and commit juvenile, pathetic acts like that.

That is true sentinel65 i used the term terrorist brashly in the case of Sea Shepard considering the fact the term has negative connotations. I personally respect Sea Shepard for even though they do often violently and aggresively harrass whaling ships the circumstnces call for it. Whaling is a cruel industry that enviromentalist have been fighting for years even decades and still certian places persitently continue it even though most of the world has banned it! In the case of Peta though we ARE affecting real change! The world is in such a different state now with veganism and animal rights a popular subject on the top of peoples minds. You have a point Annie but in case you hadn’t noticed the fact that we floured bomb Kim was not on the news. What was on the news was that Lady Gaga thinks we’re stupid because of it which only gets us negative attention like peacelovepie says we already have all the attention we need. EVERYONE knows about Peta and instead of getting more attention we need to use the attention we already have to start serious actions. When we do things like flourbombing we make people who are on the fence on the issue think we’re bullies trying beat people into submission through violence. we have the attention we know need to use persuasion or else people will reject anything animal rights just on the principle that they don’t want to submit to anybody no matter what issue they are forcing.

Hey all,
It’s great that you care about animals!
PETA’s mission is to get the animal rights message out to as many people as possible. Unlike our opposition—which is mostly composed of wealthy industries and corporations—PETA must rely largely on free “advertising” through media coverage. We will do extraordinary things to get the word out about animal cruelty because we have learned from experience that the media, sadly, do not consider the terrible facts about animal suffering alone interesting enough to cover. It is sometimes necessary to shake people up in order to initiate discussion, debate, questioning of the status quo, and, of course, action.

@Octopus, I do agree with what you are saying, PETA shouldn’t do things like throw pies and flour. It really doesn’t do anything, and certain large-scale organizations should stay clean. But I wouldn’t go around calling Sea Shepherd terrorists. There are people that would call us terrorists because we’re part of PETA. The only people that I’ve seen refer to them or us as ‘terrorists’ is politicians that want to mislead the public into thinking that we’re the bad guys/girls. The ARM are terrorists. To place Sea Shepard in the same title as them doesn’t seem right, at least to me. And after all aren’t we all trying to accomplish the same goal? (Not trying to start a giant argument here, just informing and curious as to why you would call them terrorists)

I agree with Octopus. The more pristine PETA is as an organization, without any scandals, the more seriously it will have to be taken. Legitimate, legal enterprises will do more at this point than harassment of offensive celebrities, which may give a moment of pride, but hurts AR’s in the end.

I’m NOT sympathising with Kim Kardashian or Lady Gaga. I personally despise them both but i despise even more that they can criticize Peta because innapropriate actions taken by Peta. The stupid flour bomb didn’t hurt Kim Kardashian it just made her a victim and a hero to fur wearing jerks everywhere. Now they can say, “oh peta uses animals as an excuse to throw things at people.” Kim went home got her fur coat cleaned or even got a new one and enjoyed the publicity. If instead we had organized a boycott we would have looked sensible and organized and she would have lost some cash. Now even if we do front a boycott we look petty. In responce to katytheveg Peta is more an equivalant to Green Peace NOT Sea Shepard. Sea Shepard is an under ground terrorist organization that attacks whale ships. Unless I’m wrong Peta left the tomato throwing and lab heists to other more low profile extreme organizations a long time ago. I personally think once you have a website with a board, a reward system, and regualr galas for ARA celebrities you have to accept your role as a purely political non-violent organization. I love Peta but personally i can’t continue to be part of a movement that regularly embarrases itself through violent an pathetic public action. btw thanks to MysteryMalice at least someone gets what i’m trying to say.

She doesn’t have the right to wear whatever she wants.
She may have a legal right to wear most things but that’s as far as it goes.
Laws aren’t everything.
We have many laws that we shouldn’t have and we’re lacking many laws we should have.
No person on this planet has the right to support the unnecessary torture and murder of animals by purchasing and wearing fur.
She’s proven time & time again that she’s not very bright.
When she’s older and a bit wiser she’ll likely wish she hadn’t said all that.
There’s at least a couple things to be learned from all this though:
1. Don’t purchase Gaga’s music until she gets her head on straight. Give your money to a more deserving artist instead.
2. It’s not always in the best interest of animals to piss off celebrities who wear fur.
A better strategy than attacking someone like Gaga would be to send her a documentary about the fur industry along with a thank you note for wearing faux fur (regardless of whether she’s actually wearing faux fur or not).

I fully agree with @octopus
The attitude of “well we sent her letters but she didn’t listen so we are ok with throwing stuff at her” is positively primitive and ultimately juvenile. It’s like a small child who constantly asked mommy for something and didn’t get it, so started throwing its toys around.

the flour thing is just like what Sea Shepherd does throwing the rotten butter. When words dont work, they take action in a way that is not going to hurt anyone. it is just a way of getting a point across to stubborn people who wont listen to reason.

“I respect your views, please respect mine. And to campaigners, Save your flour to make bread for the children who are hungry. And Kim Kardashian is fabulous.” Is what Gaga says, but her clothes can go to feeding children so that’s an epic fail for Gaga along with her fashion fiasco. I’ll be sure to share this.

I do find her choice to wear animal products awful esp. with the fact that she does have a lot of fans that look up to her however, I do not know what I could do to boycot her as I do not promote or use any products related to her.
