Are brown and powdered/confectioner’s sugars vegan? Does brown sugar go through a refining process before it’s mixed with molasses? (I don’t consider refined/white sugar vegan) If not, are there any brands that produce a vegan version of it? Does confectioner’s/powdered sugar go through a refining process or anything like that, either? Thanks for your help.

I buy organic, just in case. Maybe do a web search and see if anything comes up :) .

Yea, I understand how people do use it as brown sugar, I just never did.
I’ve also been getting into raw unprocessed beat sugar recently.
We use it at my place of work, and I bring it home and grind it up to do other stuff with it.

Yeah. Brown sugar is sugar that has been processed to a white sugar and stripped of it’s original “sap”. Molasses is added to the sugar to add it back. However, raw turbinado sugar never was processed like white sugar. Note they have the same properties like caking together. The taste is similar too.

I sub turbinado as regular sugar, never thought of it as a brown sugar.
For powdered sugar you can pretty much make your own by grinding it up yourself with a blender/food processor/coffee grinder.

I use brown sugar, but I’ve seen sugars that are labeled “vegan”. I’ve seen them at Whole Foods, so the 365 brand has it ^^

Brown sugar may be processed through bone char which is not vegan. If you want brown sugar there are some alternatives out there. For a while I bought raw sugar and mixed it with organic molasses until I found turbinado which can substitute brown sugar.
