• Bugs/Insects?

How do you feel towards bugs/insects? Do you apply the same humane guidelines that you do others animals to bugs/insects? Personally, I like to save them and toss them outside. I don’t feel especially guilty if I kill one. It just seems strange to me to be kind to the larger creatures, but not to the little ones. I’m not sure if insects do feel pain or not (certain sources say one thing, certain say the other, although most say they don’t), but it also just feels like it is benefiting the local ecosystem to have the bugs released back into the wild.

@sentinel65 That wouldn’t be saving it if it’s wing is broken. I was wondering if there is a way to save insects that seem doomed like that.

@peacelovepie I think she meant she released it from her home, or some other indoor area.

I do for some bugs . The good ones like daddy long legs, bee’s & even some spiders I have no clue about, but I am weary about some spiders b.c a lot of them do bite & can make you really sick & even die.. so if it’s a spider I am unaware of I try to just get it out the house without touching it, but if it’s a brown lacrosse spider I kill it when they bite they make giant holes in your skin & you end up in the hospital for days & it’s very painful. One time they made a giantic hole all the way down to the flesh talk about painful worse then having a baby. Oh & mosquito’s they carry the nile virus & we have it here close it’s been in the paper so if they land on me I kill em(beside’s mosquito’s bites are no good.)… & ticks they also carry dieases and are no good for humans or animals. Most bugs outside I don’t bother only the ones I know that are harmful.

At work I don’t even kill the bugs I find in rooms I pick them up & throw em outside & not a lot people would do that b.c there bugs, but I don’t see killing something that is not going to hurt you.

Bee’s I like them all even though they sting I don’t mind it because I am not allergic and I heard if they sting you it gives you immunity, I never kill a bee I even let them land on me, they don’t sting unless they feel threatened most of the time, but if someone is allergic I can see where they might freak out & stay as far as they can and even try to kill it b.c being allergic to bee’s can really kill someone quick depending on how bad it is.

@SkiVegChick: How did you ensure the survival of a bee that cannot fly?

Ive always believed bugs feel pain! juat the other day i saved a small bee whom broke half its wings. I just cant stand the thought of killing a bug because “It grosses you out| or “annoys you”. If a human grosses you out or annoys you you dont kill it, so why would you kill somthing because its smaller then a human!!

Even if it’s an accident, I feel guilty about killing them. Even if they don’t feel pain (even though I believe every living creature can), I’d rather not take the risk and just let them be.

I bought a humane bug catcher from the PETA catalog and wont let my mom kill even a fly. I let them all outside. I use to not feel guilty but now it has grown to where if I Accidently kill a bug the guilt kicks in. Why take away a life for no reason?

Insects are brilliant creatures, so fascinating and beautiful.
I do my best not to kill any of them but I do feel guilty if I find out I’ve accidentally killed one.

I believe that insects are living beings too, and they have a right to life. But if an insect is out to do you harm (a mosquito about to bite, a bee trying to sting you, etc.), then you have the right to do what is necessary to protect yourself.

I literally wouldn’t hurt a fly. If I kill something, it is always by accident and I do feel guilty for a short time. I may not like mosquitos or bees, but I respect their desire to live. I always try to save them whenever the chance because like Dr.Seuss says, “a person’s a person no matter how small”.

I LOVE BUGS! And they are animals, they feel pain.

It depends. Honestly, I have to admit that I slap at mosquitos, and I do swat more persistent horseflies if they get into my room, but if there is any way to save a spider, moth, caterpillar, I will try it. Wasps, I generally leave to their own devices. Maybe this isn’t as moral as it could be, but saving insects on a case-by-case basis usually works best for me.

This is pretty interesting, if not really difficult to understand at some points.
