• Bugs/Insects?

How do you feel towards bugs/insects? Do you apply the same humane guidelines that you do others animals to bugs/insects? Personally, I like to save them and toss them outside. I don’t feel especially guilty if I kill one. It just seems strange to me to be kind to the larger creatures, but not to the little ones. I’m not sure if insects do feel pain or not (certain sources say one thing, certain say the other, although most say they don’t), but it also just feels like it is benefiting the local ecosystem to have the bugs released back into the wild.

They’re living beings. Just as we don’t eat animals, vegans also do not eat insects or honey. I try to save any insects that may be trapped in my porch which happens often times. I humanely remove any insects that I don’t want living in my home, and I place them outside. I feel absolutely horrible if I accidentally step on one of those little guys – which rarely happens because I usually keep an eye on the ground when walking outdoors.

Unfortunately, it’s nearly impossible due to their teeny tiny size.. not to cause any accidental harm to any of them in our lifetime. I think they’re size is also a big reason that people are okay with killing them. There’s no way we can see the expressions of fear or pain that they may display, there for creating little or no guilt for whomever killed the insect.

Luckily there are tools out there to help us treat insects humanely, like a humane bug catcher. Just catch the bug, and release outside. You can buy one from PETA here: http://www.petacatalog.com/products/Humane_Bug_Catcher-584-3.html if interested!

I wonder the same thing. I also think it’s strange how one can kill bugs/insects and not feel any emotion just because they’re small.

Personally, I love insects :P spiders, slugs, ladybugs, etc. … I always save waspers when they come into my room, I can’t stand the thought of them getting squished by a shoe :( I don’t know if they feel pain, but if they happen to feel pain, I know I won’t be the one whom brangs pain upon them! They have life, just like cows and chickens, but do they feel like them? I have no clue :c …
