• Cat Declawing Required?

Where I live, it’s required for people to declaw their cats. I know this is a painful process for cats and leads to many problems. Is this legal to require and what could I do to help change their policy?

My mom forced me to get my cat declawed because she threatened to bring it to the shelter. What happened was the shelter was always full because there were too many cats. Surplus cats would be sent to animal control and put down. I had to chose to declaw my cat because I didn’t want her to die. I felt awful about it because she was limping and she did pee outside the litterbox. Worse than that she got an infection on one of her paws. It’s a load so try out alternatives. This one I thought worked best. http://www.softpaws.com/

If anyone says anything about it, tell them you’ll get your cat declawed the day that person rips out all their own fingernails and toenails.
If it’s like an apartment complex, or you’re renting from someone, they can pretty much require just about anything, including the declawing of cats. Perhaps you could ask them if something like Kitty Caps would be sufficient?

I would not let anyone know you have a cat for now. I’m sure they won’t hunt you & your cat down to clip their nails. They need their nails to protect themselves, climb trees, cat’s nails belong to cats and I am sure if cats could talk English they would say they would like to keep them just like I want to keep my nails. I don’t see who would want to make that legal to do . I am glad that some vets won’t do it !
