    I am vegetarian but I’m working on getting rid of more cheese as casien doesn’t like me anyway.
    I was wondering what you think the best sliced vegan cheese it?

    I tried the rice vegan one by galaxy and wasn’t impressed. I’d like to make a grilled cheese but I just have daiya shreds and I’m not sure how that will turn out? We don’t have the sliced ones here yet. I have seen the tofutti ones but I’m not sure. Does anyone have any insight from personal experience?

    We did a taste test a few years ago…3 people tasting 5 vegan cheeses straight out of the package and also melted on crackers. We all had different opinions on taste and we all picked a different #1. I liked Daiya best. You should do a taste test too!

    As of Feb 2013 Galaxy Nutritional Foods is now GO Veggie.
    GO Veggie! Dairy-Free Vegan products are in the purple packaging.
    The vegan slices and shreds are soy-free (the old Galaxy vegan slices and shreds were soy-based).
    The vegan cream cheese and grated topping contain soy.
    Products in GO Veggie! blue or green packaging are NOT vegan.

    Daiya products are all vegan and soy-free.

    Tofutti frozen dessert and cheese products are all vegan and soy-based.
    Tofutti blintzes are not vegan.

    Most Follow Your Heart products are vegan and soy-based.

    Chicago Vegan Foods products are all vegan.
    The Teese Vegan Cheeses are soy-free.
    The Dandies Marshmallows and Temptation Vegan Ice Cream are soy-based.

    Always read the label. Companies change ownership and product ingredients so look for “vegan” on the label or read the ingredient list.

    With Daiya, a little goes a long way. If you clump it up it gets oily and bulky but if you put a thin layer and keep an eye on it while it melts, it’s great. Especially with sriracha and avocado, like when making a quesadilla. When you want a grilled cheese, toast the bread first and then put on your layer of Daiya and melt it between the toasted breads. Order a cheeseless pizza with all the veg toppings, sprinkle on the Daiya when you get home and either microwave or put pieces in the toaster oven and let it melt over the veg. It’s great.

    I don’t have the slices where I live either but I think the shreds are perfect for my needs. Cheese doesn’t agree with me as well, which is probably why I don’t crave it as much as other people starting out being vegan. Good luck!

    Our favorite picks to make grilled cheese sandwiches are Daiya cheddar shreds, Toffuti American slices, or GO Veggie! American slices! 😀
