“Chipotle Mexican Grille, the chain restaurant famous for its massive burritos and natural ingredients, is testing the waters with a new vegan protein option.
Known as “Sofritas,” this shredded, seasoned tofu item is being offered alongside Chipotle’s usual proteins—chicken, steak, barbacoa (shredded beef), carnitas (pork), and beans. Sofritas was first tested in seven Chipotle restaurants in the San Francisco area, but has now been released in 18 additional shops throughout the rest of Northern California…” http://www.thisdishisvegetarian.com/2013/04/chipotle-tries-taking-tofu-mainstream.html
Anyone try these? What’s your opinion?
While you could, by leaving the meat & cheese out, have a vegan option anytime there, I like the idea of this. But I must say, the thought of chewing on firm tofu scramble grosses me out! ha ha. If it’s anything like the MorningStar veggie patties consistency though, I think I would eat it all up!
Had this for the first time over the weekend (several times) and it was awesome! It’s kind of spicy and has the texture of a firm tofu scramble. I had it in a burrito one day and tacos the rest of the time. 😀
