I’ve suffered from chronic depression my entire life and have been vegan for many years. Today my doctor (one of many I have seen in my time) suggested medication. Part of me wants to give it another go, but another (and much bigger) part of me doesn’t want to because most anti-depressants contain animal ingredients, at least from what I’ve read. Online research hasn’t helped me find any meds suitable to my vegan lifestyle (I also have a wheat/gluten intolerance). I have been avoiding medicine for some time but now feel it might be worth trying once more as I cannot naturally get my depression under control.
So, my question is: Do they make any veg anti-depressants? Thanks.
I have a few disorders are in dire need of medication, or I wont be able to function properly at all with the day.. I have had the same contemplations.. still do, in fact, But in the end, until people realize this desperate decision between happiness and cruelty.. we will have to suffer one or the other. (yet I still have the greatest hope that tea will be the cure one day..)
I have depression and social anxiety disorder. I might have to go on meds soon so that I can function mormally in society. I’ve also been thinking about meds and its experiments on animals. I wish I could find some meds that doesn’t involve animals, although unlikely.
Whether or not to take the prescriptions your doctor recommends is a personal choice that only you can make. We want you feeling your best so that you can speak up for animals! Oh, and remember that you can make a difference by asking legislators to mandate the development and validation of non-animal tests.
I have to take various medications for my mental health issues and even though they’re probably not vegan (and no medications can be 100% vegan as they’ve all been tested on animals anyway) I’ve accepted the fact that I need to take them to live, and I want to live to be able to help more animals.
@Styna said it all much more eloquently than I could!!
