A week after I went vegetarian (5 months ago) my boyfriend told me he wanted to go vegetarian too and I was surprised but excited. I eventually went without dairy and eggs too and it was so cool that I wasn’t alone in saying “oh no I don’t eat meat.” Well I just found out the hard way that he has been eating fish this whole time. To him he was still vegetarian and I told him I was disappointed after I found out because fish is still meat. I thought we were teaming up and showing people that they can eat meat free and not miss it. I feel kinda alone in the fight again. any encouraging words?
Giving him the benefit of the doubt, some people think vegetarians still eat fish. When was around 10 i thought they still ate fish until i come to peta. So maybe he didnt fully understand. Some people dont think fish are like other animals. up until i went vegan, my family didnt understand that vegetarians dont eat fish.
I wouldn’t be too hard on him! It sounds like you’ve been doing an awesome job, and it’s a good sign that he’s at least being supportive and trying to get on board. All you can really do is be encouraging and help him to see that fish feel pain too: http://www.peta2.com/blog/top-five-reasons-fishing-hurts/.
A lot of people don’t understand that vegetarian means you don’t eat fish either as they’re an animal so I’d forgive him for this mistake. And help him to stop eating fish too. But if he doesn’t then just be glad that he’s saving some animals by not eating them.
