Hey Peta2! I was thinking this morning as I was putting on my makeup–isn’t Ellen Degeneres, a vegan and animal rights activist, one of the faces of Covergirl? Covergirl tests on animals, right? I thought it would be awesome if PETA and Peta2 (as well as its supporters) could contact Ellen and talk to her about this. Can you imagine how much of an impact her stepping down would be on the cosmetic industry? If she said, “not until this stops”? After all, being vegan isn’t just about what someone eats. It’s a lifestyle!

    Hey @kristah,

tThanks for being concerned about this! CoverGirl products sold in the United States are not tested on animals, according to the manufacturer, but PETA recently learned that some companies that claim to be cruelty-free, including CoverGirl, are selling their products in China, where animal testing is required for some cosmetics products. This policy was most likely not revealed to Ellen when she was asked to model for the company.

PETA is urging companies to contribute to the effort in order to hasten the switch to non-animal methods in China, and several companies have stepped up to help. We will be asking all celebrity spokespeople to help us in this effort.
