• Famous South Korean Vegetarian Starts Eating Meat Because of Angelina Jolie

    Famous South Korean vegetarian singer Park Ki-Young recently stated on a popular talk show that she began eating meat again because of Angelina Jolie.
    Ki-Young, who is several months pregnant, said that she began craving meat after smelling some beef cooking at a restaurant.
    She decided to search the Internet for information about being vegetarian while pregnant and discovered that Angelina Jolie began eating meat again while pregnant.
    Ki-Young figured that if Angelina Jolie did this there must be very good reason so she followed her example.

    So, not only is Angelina’s ignorance causing serious problems in North America but now in South Korea as well.
    Thanks a lot Angelina.

    1.
    That may apply to food, but dead animals aren’t food.
    Choosing whether or not to include apples in your diet qualifies as a personal choice which people should be allowed to have.
    Choosing whether or not to include the bodies of tortured, murdered animals in your diet does not qualify as a personal choice because it directly causes the pain, suffering and death of the animals who are to be tortured and murdered so that their bodies can be included in your diet.
    Here’s another way to put it:
    Choosing to eat the bodies of tortured, murdered animals should be considered no more a personal choice than choosing to eat the bodies of tortured, murdered humans.
    Killing and eating human beings is wrong and illegal.
    Killing and eating non-human beings is also wrong and will be illegal in the not-so-distant future.

    2.
    It’s not an issue of conforming to what other people think you should do.
    It’s an issue of not causing the unnecessary pain, suffering and death of these animals who have done absolutely nothing to deserve it.

    someone, even a celebrity, is allowed to do what they want. They shouldn’t conform to what people think they should do. If they want to put something in their diet, they shouldn’t be hung for it. They are going to be criticized no matter what they do, I just think people should be focusing on their own lives and look up to someone other than a celebrity.

    “The price of greatness is responsibility,” –Winston Churchill

    Angelina Jolie is a very popular celebrity and her public actions have a strong influence on millions of easily influenced people and she therefore needs to be especially careful about what she says & does in the public eye.

    She publicly gave the impression (to these easily influenced people) that a vegan diet is nutritionally insufficient and even potentially deadly.
    That was extremely irresponsible of her.
    If she wants to carelessly damn her vegan diet without doing proper research, that’s fine, but she’d better be prepared to do it privately rather than publicly.

    Ki-Young assumed that, because Angelina is a U.S. celebrity who can afford the best doctors and nutritionists, she must be well informed and she must have a very good reason for bringing meat back into her diet.

    The actions of both Ki-Young and Angelina were irresponsible but, because so many millions of people (including many Korean celebrities) are being culturally trained to follow the lead of high-profile U.S. celebrities, and because Angelina is completely aware of this, it is Angelina whom I’m most interested in criticizing.

    To be perfectly clear, I didn’t post this thread to point out that Angelina is solely to blame for Ki-Young’s actions. I posted this thread to point out that Angelina’s ignorance and irresponsibility is causing serious problems for animals both inside and outside of the U.S.

    I don’t think it is Angelina’s fault. She didn’t force the singer to eat meat, it was ki-youngs own assumptions and ignorance that led to their decision. Just. Because Angelina made a choice doesn’t mean she is the cause of meat eating in the world.

    Goodness it is insane how people act after a celebrity does something. I think she is making a very bad choice.

    @Degu
    Never heard anything about it until around March or April of this year. That’s when it started turning up on the AR forums.
    Thanks for the great links! Very useful.

    Nope, the rumors started in 2009 when the DailyMail (BLECH) posted this article. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1200663/Angelina-Jolie-vetoes-Brad-Pitts-meat-plea-rainbow-brood.html

    Then again in 2010 when the International Business Times posted this article: http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/47551/20100831/angelina-jolie-brad-pitt-angelina-jolie-movie-salt.htm

    @Degu
    That article is from January. The rumor that he has dropped meat from his diet (or is interested in dropping meat from his diet) really started spreading a few months after that article was published. Thanks for the link though.

    Brad Pitt is not vegetarian nor vegan.

    From earlier this year: http://www.washingtonian.com/blogs/bestbites/food-restaurant-news/brad-and-angelina-do-restaurant-week-at-charlie-palmer-steak.php

    Sad that people need celebrities in order to decide how to eat.

    @RobertMair
    The rumor is that Brad Pitt adheres to a vegan diet but, earlier this year, I searched for solid evidence to support this rumor and couldn’t find any.
    Keep in mind that whenever a celebrity states that they have switched to a vegetarian/vegan diet, the press coverage is minimal (or non-existent), but whenever they state that they are giving up on their vegetarian/vegan diet, the press coverage is huge (most likely the work of the meat & dairy industry combined with the public’s desire to feel less guilty about their meat eating).
    So, yeah, the rumor may very well be true.

    Hi there! My name is Devon and I'm 16 years old. I joined PETA because I hate animal abuse and the whole slaughterhouse and inhumane things that go on there. Currently vegetarian, but going in the vegan direction! I love the Beatles, Wings, and Paul McCartney in general. I became vegetarian as a mix between honoring the late Linda McCartney and loving animals. Don't be afraid to talk to me!
