I feed my dog vegetarian dog food for the most part.

Kind of a difficult issue to answer. A carnivore HAS to eat meat to survive. There is no alternative for them. So they must eat other animals to survive obviously. It isn’t that we place them above cows as much as it is they must survive, and therefore eat cow meat. It’s just the way the circle of life works, certain animals will always feed on others (unless in millions upon millions of years everything somehow becomes vegetarian for some reason).

actually if you look at it.. a cow at 1000 lbs renders about 700 lbs of Meat.. A cat lives At the most 15 years A dog can get up to 20 years theres no way in that life span could they eat 700 lbs of meat. so i would say 1 cow can sustain a cat or dog for there whole life. so i would disagree with the couple of dozen animals

But let me ask you this: The amount of meat you feed your cat or dog in a lifetime is at least equivalent to a couple dozen animals. If we consider all animals lives equal, than why are we supporting the killing of at least 20 animals for the sake of one? If you had to choose between 1 cow’s life or 20, would you not choose to save the 20 over the 1? Whats the difference when you add a cat into a picture? Does a cow not have the same right to life as a cat? Why do we consider our cats superior to the cows or chickens that we support the death of for their dinner? I thought animal liberation was against ‘speciesm’ as Peter Singer would put it.

This is just a philosophical question that has been in the back of my mind for a while. Please note that I don’t support the idea of feeding our cats and dogs veggies and tofu….

I agree with you guys. I am just wondering how people feel about it.

Don’t impose your values upon a creature that is not able to sustain them naturally. I feed my cat food with meat, and then I scrub my hands really well. I would love it if I could find really, well, decently treated cat food, but until then, I have to deal for the sake of his health.

No becuse THATS there natural diet.. people who force Vegan ideals and diets on cats and dogs should be charged with animal cruelity Plan and simple Becuse depriving a Carnivorus animal its natural diet so *you* dont feel guilty is just stupid! If you Dont want a meat eatting animal DONT OWN ONE!
