• Forced Meat

Since i became vegan almost a year ago, my own friends and family have tried to put meat in my mouth and rubbed it in my face LITERALLY. People pester me constantly. I think being hateful towards vegans is just as bad as being hateful towards someone because of how they look. It upsets me SO much. Has anyone else dealt with the same problems?

My friends have done that with me before. Just be serious with them and tell them this is your lifestyle and you don’t appreciate how they deal with it. good luck :)

Don’t eat with your family. Just eat on your own time. If they say anything like eat this meat just be like no thanks I don’t want dead animal flesh.

If it’s your own family, then you should really have a talk with them and tell them that you’re serious (: After awhile, they’re get bored of annoying you and soon enough, they’ll just forget :D

I would punch them in the face.
But you probably shouldn’t do that.
I would agree with @littlelotte those don’t sound like very good friends.
I mean my friend ragged on me for a while, but they gave up after a couple months.
Every once in a while I still get into a heated arguement with a family member about how you DONT NEED MEAT TO SURVIVE, but other than that everyone has pretty much accepted it.
I’m really sorry you have to deal with that :/

But seriously, I would punch them in the face.

I would say those people doing that are not ‘friends’, ditch them and get some new ones! Also, if people are doing it at school then report them, doing things like that can actually be classed as assault.

I haven’t dealt with it, but what helps me is to not say that i’m vegan unless I’m going to go eat out with them or something. Then that usually doesn’t bring up nasty hate comments and rubbing of meat in my face. I mean, I’m proud (and wear t-shirts and sweaters to show that I’m vegan), but that doesn’t mean I start telling everyone I meet that I’m vegan because I know people will look at me funny (but all the people I’ve told are nice about it, which is something I’m grateful for). Why not try that with new people you meet? And with those people, just ignore them! They’re not worth your time!

When I was young, I had a friend who didn’t eat pork for religious reasons and I thought it was completely ridiculous. At that time, if I had seen someone sneaking some pork into her food, I wouldn’t have stopped them. In fact, I would have seen nothing wrong with it at all.
When I was older, after I dropped meat from my diet, I had several people try to feed me food with meat products snuck into it
So I understand both sides of this issue.

These are likely the same kinds of people who would harass those of differing religions and backgrounds. If you say your friends are doing it, those are not friends. Your family is greatly misinformed and it’s appalling the way they bully you. I’d set my mealtimes apart from them and make my food look and smell 10 times better than theirs so after a while they would feel at least a little bad and miss you. Say you won’t eat with them until they educate themselves or listen to you educate them on the healthier lifestyle. There is nothing wrong with wanting to make the world a better place, even if people like them are on it.

@CarolineS it is because people are indoctrinated from birth to believe meat is the right food for humans. The status quo pushes this notion too…

I have heard people say veg*n children are akin to child abuse. It’s sad that meat eaters don’t realise they too are forcing their views on their children.

It’s wierd how people ask me about if I’d raise my kids vegetarian/vegan and they are always like well you can’t force them. Yet, I often hear people saying how when thier kids were little they didnt like or want meat so they had to make them eat it or force them -___-
I just never understand how people can say meat is the right way. If it was natural so many young children wouldn’t need to be forced! -_- It’s just so frustrating. :[

i'm sorry you have to go through this. My family calmed down but they still criticize or tease me now and then. :J Just stay strong :]

I’ve only had my uncle put a plate full of lamb in front of me. That’s the nearest to being forced I’ve ever dealt with. Your family sound horrible. Perhaps you should get them to watch Meet your Meat or Earthlings, then maybe they’ll realise why you are vegan.
