  • Halal Meat: Humane or the Same?

    New blog post is here!

“The question has come up about halal meats. What is it and is it humane? The word halal means food that is permissible according to Islam law. Like kosher meat in which Jews eat, Muslims eat halal meat only. According to Muslims, this way of killing an animal is supposed to be respectful and gives thanks back to them. But one can’t help but ask how? How is killing an animal showing it respect?”

The slaughter of a halal animal is called “zabihah” and there are certain guidelines to follow:

Allah’s (God’s) name must be pronounced during slaughter.
The instrument must be very sharp to ensure humane slaughter. The animal must be slit at the throat.
The animal must not be unconscious
The animal must be hung upside down and allowed to bleed dry. Eating blood is not halal.
These steps must be accomplished by a Muslim or the People of the Book (Christian or Jew.) Many observant Muslims find kosher meat acceptable.
The animal must have been fed a natural diet that did not contain animal by-products. im Muslim i know this. todays peta and or animal rights activist try to make it something its not. trust me, if you go to a real islamic slaughter plant you will see for yourself. if you do it the correct way, then the animal will feel no pain.it may sound weird but look up abu dabi slaughter plant. thats real. im a vegetarian. i think meat is murder. but most Muslims eat meat. its not just muslims that tell me this, but, they all say, god gave us meat to eat. it gets me frustrated when ppl say that. but im always sticking with my religion, over peta or any animal rights origination.

Im a Muslim too, and I understand everyone’s views and why they consider meat bad, but just think, if meat was murder, wouldn’t the Prophets all be vegan? calling meat murder is saying that all the Prophets of the past were murderers. Animals kill each other for food. plants also have life, and it takes a lot more plant lives to fill us up than it does animal lives. people don’t think about plant life because plants don’t have big goo-goo eyes to look at us with and cuddle with us. anyways, im rambling now, but im just saying if eating meat was bad, if would have been forbidden to us. 🙂 Thankyou

That’s ok, you are entitled to your opinions and preference of foods, but please don’t call meat murder, because our beloved Prophets (may peace be upon them all) also ate meats, and it would be right to call them murderers! Thankyou Sahara! 🙂

No he won’t, because you are approaching this from the wrong way. I am neither anti Muslim nor anti meat, however i would say this, Islam is false, just as Christianity and Judaism and all the other religions are, never mind one god, there are NO gods.

You ask if meat is murder would that make the prophets murderers.
Well first of all, you need to define murder i mean Muhammed may never have killed himself, i do not know, nor Jesus, but most assuredly Moses ordered and aided in many many killings.

But let us set aside this. I am an anti theist and with good reason. Before yo waste energy screaming at me, this is defensible, and your faith is borne of being raised in it from birth. With in many places a penalty of death to not worship Allah, and the idea of mocking Mohammed would be incomprehensible.
All by authority figures so psychologically, it is near impossible to not believe. I would imagine Muslims have far less leave the religion of Islam, than do Christians have leaving their religion.
Muslims are i think the most devout in what they believe, hence you can’t look beyond your claim.
However, it is a false claim to say meat is murder, this is done because we place ourselves above animals. Yet then propose equality. Well i agree that animals deserve humane treatment GOOD treatment.
So though you arrive at the idea in a wrong way from my p.o.v, it is still right. We used to hunt, many animals do, and if we make animals our equals we make ourselves their equal and thus validate ourselves acting the same, if we elevate ourselves above animals, and we are built as omnivores, we are hardly sinners to eat what is there to eat.
But i see little consideration of the realities here.
So many people are anti Muslim, or anti Islam, i am from a perspective of lack of belief in religion, but when considering their practice in food people can’t be very objective.
Take the truth of Halal, if the blade is nick free, razor sharp will it hurt more or less?
Speaking as a chef i can assure any reader, if you slice yourself with a finely honed blade, you will often not know until you see the blood, and if any wishes to doubt my claim, get yourself a nicked, blunt blade and draw over your thumb to cut it. It will be painful. Get a razor blade and do the same.
Of course no one wants to try that but take it out of the religious taint of bigotry, ie if you were asked what hurts more and had no idea this related to slaughter methods and religion, and the answer is that the sharpest blade hurts less.

Second of all severing all the veins and arteries as they should, including, the jugular, will cause an instant drop in blood pressure, this will result in unconsciousness, a few nerve twitches may result but that is all it will be.
Consider our traditional methods for birds, hung upside down and run heads through electrified water, then heads severed by any estimation that cannot be considered pain free.

So whilst peta may rather we were all vegan, then that is unrealistic anyway. Not to mention that halal not being pumped with water and preservatives will taste better and is not kept as long.

But because people hate Islam, they hate halal, no one ever made these complaints about Kosher did they.

Halal meat is definitely not humane because killing someone who doesn’t look like a human because of religion is not right and animals raised for food are killed in the end with knivee. Eo please don’t support halal meat or meat of any kind. Thanks.

please watch this 3-part video. the way most people do halal meat these days is wrong. this is the true, Islamic way of doing it. watch these videos till the end! we as humans cannot get energy without consuming something that has energy, meaning plants and animals. i will avoid the products that are not cruelty free. but please watch these videos to see real halal. this video doesnt actually kill the animal, just shows you how its done.

Yeah that’s crap. Okay, if it’s a religious thing and somehow that makes killing “okay”, sure they can eat it. That’s not my problem. But from a vegan perspective; is it okay to kill and eat the meat? Hell no! The definition of vegan is to not eat anything that has a heart or a biproduct of a being that has a heart! So I think nothing would make killing = showing respect (because if a person kills another person, that’s nothing like respecting, right?), but if they want to, go ahead.

people dont kill people to eat them. and if they did that would be wrong because from a religious perspective, its not allowed. but animals and plants both feel pain, there is a way to kill them in the most painless way possible, and that is how true Islamic Halal is. please watch this video.
