Hello! I wanted to see everyone else’s opinion on this particular subject. I have two fuzzy friends (ferrets). Ferrets are carnivores and they can’t really have veggies at all. If given too much vegetables, it can cause a deadly intestinal blockage! Their ideal diet consists of raw meat or meat-packed kibble. I have heard of people veganizing their fuzzies. However, it has caused shorter lifespans and problems in the long run. So, I do feed my ferrets meat based kibble. My opinion is that it isn’t my ferrets’ faults that God made them carnivores. I do not want my ferrets to die because of my personal diet. I know my opinion. I want to hear everyone’s opinions. (This is in no way intended to start a war.)

@Dagmar, I buy pre-made kitty food because I’m too lazy to make my own (haha!), and I’m afraid I’d somehow mess it up. Making your own is much cheaper, but if you’re like me and like it all ready to go for you, this is the kind I use:
    http://store.nexternal.com/vegancats/evolution-vegan-cat-kibble-p5.aspx
I thought the price was nuts, not so much now that this one 40 lb. bag has lasted me so long and still is mostly full. I feel good knowing that I’m doing the best I can for my kitty and other animals. Plus, look at those flavors! Is that not awesome? Cheese burger and pasta. Yum!

Here’s another option I had looked into: http://store.nexternal.com/vegancats/vegecat-kibble-mix-by-hoana-p4.aspx
I was just way too confused with the recipes for it, and I know that most of the ingredients aren’t available near me. It might be a great option for you, though!

PETA posted a blog with more info on veggie pet food:
    http://www.peta.org/issues/companion-animals/meatless-meals-for-dogs-and-cats.aspx

I looked into it a lot and I felt like the Evolution was my best option (they have wet canned food too). I don’t know of many other vegan friendly pet foods unfortunately. If any one else does, let me know so Sage and I can give them a go! :)

Oh my .. Feed the ferret the best way you can.. it’s kind of like cats I don’t know of anyone who feeds a cat a full vegan meal 24/7 every single day. I know on animal planet they said cats couldn’t.. but that doesn’t mean cats shouldn’t be here. I think ferrets are too cute & I wouldn’t kill it which I doubt you will consider that anyway .. But I wouldn’t beat yourself if you can’t keep a ferret vegan….

I am proud to be weird! My pride and joy is Popsicle, my precious baby, a Blue-tongued Skink. (Sub-species: Irian Jaya) Popsicle and I spend hours together each day, I take him outside and around the house! He goes to the bathroom outside, (potty-trained, whooo!) and explores as he pleases. I let him on my head and in my bed, I do not fear Salmonella and kiss him liberally. He recognizes me, and whenever I drop my hand into his tank he crawls on for an adventure! I also love my kitty and dog, but Popsicle is my most devoted animal companion! :)
