• Help needed for hair products!

So I need to find some vegan products which sounds easy enough BUT I have to use specific types of hair lotion since its difficult to find anything strong enough to somewhat contain my hair. I’m mixed race and have the stereotypical ‘black’ hair even though it’s not black… this means its very frizzy in places and is difficult to remove it (you end up looking like it rained heavilly if you grease it in the morning it’s that bad so instead I cover it before going to bed and it’s decent in the morning) and breaks so easilly that it cannot be washed more than once every three months if that.

So what I’ve normally used and grew up on are:
    - Luster’s pink original oil moisturiser hair oil lotion (pink bottle and is normally only found in hair shops specific for black people)
    - Treseme shampoo + conditioner and the ocasional frizz control stuff which never actually works

And there is another one but I can’t remember the name, it’s a green opaque bottle though.

There’s a little catch though. Where I’m living right now there are no black hair shops at all since its lacking in racial diversity so I have to be able to find it in supermarkets or health shops such as Boots. Plus I live in England so I may not be able to find everything you can possibly think of though I might be able to buy online.

Many thanks if you can help!

I remembered this thread and I thought you guys might like this photo shoot that Lush did

Hi (: you should check out thelonghaircommunity.com! They have tons of information on there about natural hair care. Also, read up on coconut oil. It’s ammaaazziinngg. I use this kind: http://www.vitacost.com/artisana-100-organic-raw-coconut-oil-extra-virgin. It’s a little pricey for coconut oil, but it has everything in coconut oil that you want (organic, raw, extra virgin, great color and smell) and it actually lasts a long time because you only need a little bit. I could go on and on about different things that would probably help, but this is already getting kinda long and all the things I’d tell you are on that site somewhere anyways lol. However, if you do want more info from me then you could just message me or something. (:

I was going to say pretty much the same thing as @dfaye1123
If there is a Sallys Beauty over there, it’s a great option. They have a lot of vegan products that work wonderfully. I don’t have the same type of hair, but I did work at a Sally’s and actually had a customer in the -exact- same predicament as you come in. They needed a vegan product that could contain the frizz. I was the only person in the store who even knew what vegan was, and honestly -none of us had that much experience with “ethnic” hair, which is shameful I know. But the great thing about Sally’s is if you try something a few times and don’t like it, you can return it and get something else. So I think the girl ended up trying two or three different things before she found one she liked, and I don’t remember the exact product but I know it was one of the Ion products.

I’m not sure if England has a Sally Beauty, but I know you can order online….I use Shea Moisture brand and LOVE it. Their products are entirely cruelty free, smell amazing and work wonders. I have mixed hair so I have a rough time finding products as well but this stuff tames my hair without weighing it down.

Lush has some really nice shampoos and conditioners, plus they make them for different hair types! & There’s an option on the sidemenu you can click so that it shows you only the vegan options (they’re also marked with a V). I have some of their conditioner, and some of their liquid shampoo, and a shampoo bar, and they all work extremely well (as do their toner & face washes & masks that I’ve tried). Plus they’re actually pretty cost effect because they work really well so you only have to use a little bit of product and they last a really long time. I would maybe try the Trichomania bar which is described as “Trichomania Coconut cream shampoo and conditioning for dry locks” it’s only $9.95, or Blousey which is described as a “gentle, non-stripping shampoo” for $25.95 (it seems expensive, but they really do last a long time! I bought a shampoo bar and a tub of their Big shampoo and I still have a lot left and they’ve lasted forever! I just alternate between the two and it works really well, they’re the first shampoo products that I’ve really loved!) But they also have Rehab a ‘shampoo treatment’ which has great reviews, and a dry shampoo that is supposed to be good, so I would really just check out the site. Sorry for this rant, aah, I just really like they’re products hahah.

Nexxus shampoo & hair conditioner, they have hair spray when you use a flat iron & they have a leave in hair conditioner.

I had a look at the site and that stuff is pretty expensive, considerably more so than I’m using right now. I wouldn’t mind paying it out if I knew it did work but as I’m not sure I can’t really afford it especially since I’m on a student budget.

‘Just Natural’ Has some frizz control products. I haven’t used them so I can’t say if they work as well as they claim to. They’re made here in the states, but they should ship to the UK http://www.justnaturalskincare.com/hair-black/frizz-hair/ALL-frizz-hair-products.html
