    I hate being ill (well, who actually likes being ill?!!).
    I’ve got an awful cold and cough again, despite doing everything ‘right’ to stay healthy and prevent illness.

    I’m already in big trouble with work for taking time off sick but it can’t be helped.
    Of course, now I have to take medicines which I’m pretty sure aren’t vegan to help me get better quicker. If it wasn’t for work, I’d be able to try more natural options or just rest and ride it out but they put pressure on me to get better quickly and I have to be seen to be really trying.

    So as well as feeling physically lousy, I feel emotionally crap because of what I’m having to take. Oh and stressed because of work. Such fun :/

    Stay really warm (uncomfortably warm even) and sleep as much as possible (if you can’t sleep, just lay there) so that your body can use all of your energy to beat the virus, and sleep with your head & chest elevated (about a 45 degree angle).
    I use steam to stop the coughing. If you keep a pot of water on the stove on low heat, you can raise the humidity in your house so that you don’t have to remain near a steam source. Heaters really dry out the air and cause bad coughing. If you’re using a heater, it will be hard to keep the air humid. As an alternative, you can try wearing a surgical mask to trap in the humidity from your own breath. I wear them when I have to go to work sick. I also suck on non-medicated menthol lozenges all day while wearing the mask.
    The only medication I ever take when sick is ibuprofen (Advil) and I only take it if the pain & discomfort is so bad that I can’t sleep. It actually works really well but may not last the full night (might have to take it twice to get a good full night of sleep).
    Try to keep drinking liquid. Plain soy milk works good for a sore throat and seems to even interfere with the activity of the virus. I just keep a carton at my side and keep sipping on it all day. I drank three cartons in one day last time I was sick. It was totally worth it though. Make sure you use plain soy milk because the flavored stuff contains too much sugar which tends to make a sore throat worse.
    Aside from that, just eat a lot of nutritious, vitamin-rich food (in mashed or blended form) and remember that hot showers are your friend.
    I hope you’re able to beat it quickly. It certainly does suck having to work when you’re sick.

    I’ve been trying veggie soup, smoothies and ginger tea too! I just seem to have no immune system!!
