Ask her where the animals get their protein, then tell her to cut out the middle cow, and go for the nutrient dense deliciousness that fruits and veggies have to offer! Have her watch the film “Forks Over Knives” with you. It talks about preventing and getting rid of diseases such as cancer through a vegan diet, and also explains why the western diet is so dangerously unhealthy. You won’t regret it. If all else fails, protest. Make your own meals. Refuse to eat any animal foods. Possibly look into working out daily so you can show people you are serious about your health. Look into vegan athletes and bodybuilders (Noel Vegan Fitness Star, Ed Bauer) as inspiration. Do your research and gain some knowledge on vegan health benefits so you can back your lifestyle choice up with positive facts.
What exactly do your meals consist of? You’re either eating poorly, or your mom is, and I mean this kindly, ignorant of how healthy vegetarian/vegan food is. My mom has always thought that vegan/vegetarian is hella more healthy than eating meat and other animal products, but she did voice her concern once when I went on this month long streak of eating nothing but rice and caramelized onions with sesame oil.
If you’re eating a lot of fries and pop tarts,I can understand your mom’s position, otherwise I think you need to show her some nutritional facts and show her you can piece together meals that meet all your nutrient needs.
Hey @violetas98, I understand your frustration but sometimes you need to make sure that you are truly taking care of yourself with your diet. Sometimes we get too restricted in these diets that we forget what our body NEEDS. There comes a point where your beliefs and your well being may need to part. However, if you are getting all of the important nutrients you need to be healthy then prove her wrong. But please make sure you are taking care of yourself, because she could very well be right.
