Today in religion class we where supposed to do a presentation on what makes us special and how can we help others by just being ourselves. I was really exited so I was the first to volunteer.
In my presentation everything was going great and the people where loving my presentation until I said that by being vegan I help others because sometimes animals also need help, (not only humans). When the teacher heard this she got angry and started saying that I was wrong because I also need to remember that plants are alive too and that even though that by being vegan I don’t kill animals, I do kill plants, which is more or less the same thing.
I was like WTF?!? Everyone started laughing at me and one of my classmates said that she felt sorry for me because I thought I was making a difference by being vegan! I tried to explain to the teacher that plants can’t feel anything and that animals suffer horribly before being killed but she just said :”Just go to your seat, that was enough!”
I am so mad and upset right now! I just hate it when ignorant people think that they know everything! >:(
So I was wondering have you had any experience like this one before? And if so, what do you do to get over it?

When I first decided to go vegetarian my mother flipped out! Living in one of the major cattle raising states, her cousins owning a ranch and the whole nine yards (I can’t even get into what happens there!), she became super defensive. One thing she said that gets me going even today was “Well should we not eat bananas because people in South America slave away picking them?” I was outraged. How does that have to do with killing animals for food?? I stuck to the facts though through the argument and after 2 long months she finally accepts veganism. Although she still doesn’t understand why I occasionally want to eat soy chicken nuggets or a veggie burger… oh mother ha! Anyways.. My advice for you is to stay strong! Your teacher and classmates are being ignorant and stubborn because they don’t like hearing they are wrong and they don’t want to change. But just cause they won’t listen doesn’t mean others wont! Stay strong and don’t let them get to you! :)

@KumiKumiVegan18 How is a nice way to say this? Your teacher is a turd. People shouldn’t be close-minded to ideas until they truly understand both sides. I do get a lot of smack about being vegan, especially by cowards on the internet. By your teacher’s logic snapping a puppy’s neck is no different than breaking the stem of a flower. Next time your teacher chooses to be a butt-head use facts like that. A teacher especially can’t show bias like that. I would send a complaint or trying to talk to her after class and say she has no right to pass that kind of judgement on you.

As an eclectic Wiccan, I respect and worship nature and do my best to preserve its beauty. With this worship comes the respect for Mother Earth's creatures, and I have chosen a vegan path in order to lessen the suffering.

Yeah... I already graduated college, but I never left school! I've been a teacher ever since! Right now I'm in Taiwan teaching English to sweet kids, and of course I always share the message of compassion towards animals with them.

Ello All. ♥ I never am really quite sure what to say in this section of any of my profile's I've had on social networks... No matter what I put I feel like your never going to get an accurate depiction of who it is I am unless you really get to know me.

Im 17 years old about to turn 18. I have been vegetarian since I could remember. Tried meat for a year when I was about 14 and then stopped. I drink wine every once in a while if you were wondering about my profile pic. Yes I am classy like that. Anyway, stop animal cruelty and support gay rights and marriage equality!
