I’m starting as a vegetarian and then progressing to vegan. But since I live in a small town full of animal farmers in Alberta, known for Alberta beef, things have started off rocky. In the first two weeks I have been called “crazy” and “Retarded.” But how have I responded to this? By buying a “I am not a nugget” shirt I am not afraid to stand up for what I want and will be taking photos around France and Spain on my trip in April.
I live in a province known for producing meat, and will quite often be wearing my new shirt. Anyone else have a bad time?
Ha ha, I live in a small farming village in Alberta too. Ever heard of Holden? Anyways good for you for doing that. I just keep it down low, people seem to understand. Then again, they always thought I was a bit of a nut!
I know for a fact when I go to school and everyone finds out there are going to be stupid comments. Hey, it’s my last year at this school what do I have to worry about? Of course I won’t do anything to be suspended or anything but they can’t stop me from expressing my values. It’s weird how people get do worried, when it’s a healthy choice :/
What a great idea !! Glad you not afraid to stand up for animals ! I myself had a similar experience, I come from a very small town which started out with no vegetarians (never mind even mentioning vegans ! lol) I had lots of parents of my friends coming up to me and expressing their concern for me when I finally became a full vegan. Many people though I had an eating disorder becasue they thought I was being to ‘drastic’ (no such thing!) :S It was very frustrating, but they learned to accept it ! Give it time, I’m sure they’ll back off, or maybe even go veg themselves
