@aquarius Do you know if the shampoo from Sally’s Beauty Supply is tested on animals? Just wondering, because I know a lot of their products are.

@SkiVegChick If you have a Lush near you (or can afford to buy online) then I strongly recommend these products:

i’ve heard of the no-poo method you’re describing but i never tried it..baking soda can be kinda rough on the hair and mine is color treated. it’s cool that it works for you though. but for anyone in need of a vegan shampoo and conditioner, there’s a brand called “ion” at sally’s beauty supply that specifies “100% vegan” on their bottles.

@hannahrox1234, the adjustment period really wasn’t that bad for me, but then i was using ‘clear’ brand shampoo, which is supposedly wonderful for your hair. i honestly didn’t even notice my hair getting greasy! @peppermintcherry, good luck! hope it works out well for you ![]()
@nomeatnodairynoproblem, that’s my main goal! i want to taper off the baking soda and lemon juice concoctions until i can just use water like that. question though, do you have to have soft water for that? of all the stuff i’ve seen reccommends it, but i live in kentucky, so no such luck :l
@AliceInPonderland, that’s a big reason i just gave up on any shampoo. there’s so many scary chemicals out there, you never really know what’s going on your skin! i do reccommend using the recipe i had below, because i’ve tried it with plain water, and it made my hair gross as well. i honestly think it has something to do with the water hardness in your area, i know our water here is pretty bad!
@SassyVegan, i think @Rachel-S pretty much covered it. like i said though, you can never really know where your stuff comes from! companies lie all the time about things like that, so i just figure, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
@SagoJyou, i’m glad you found something that works
i love castile soap on my body, it makes skin so soft! but as for my hair, it made it look kinda gross, so i guess it works differently for everyone
and on the smell issue for the conditioning, i’d reccommend just using the lemon juice, it operates on the same principle as the apple cider vinegar, but smells waaaaaay better. if your hair still gets static-y or dry like mine, i’d say to mix some vegetable glycerine with water and use it on your ends a couple times a week
it’s a natural humectant, and i find that it works really well! also, i’m hoping to buy some essential oils to add to my mixtures within the next couple weeks because i miss my hair smelling nice and not just like… hair. haha!:p so if anyone has suggestions on that, i’d love to hear em (: thanks all!

Ha ha I tried the baking soda thing a few years ago and it left dandruff so I stopped. Now I use the peta2 recipe where they mix Castile soap + vitamin E oil and boy it works like a charm! And for “conditioning”, I do apple cider vinegar + lemon juice and water it down and man it’s so beautiful! Smells iffy (but it’ll go away soon enough), but it sure leaves my hair shiny! And it’s cheap XD

I’d try the no-poo method, but my hair is super curly and tangles really easily with just water. So does anyone know if Garnier Fructis tests on animals? What’s everyone’s favorite cruelty-free shampoo and conditioner brands?

I tried this and I couldn’t really get it to work? I was only rinsing it with water which I’d read had worked for a lot of people buy my hair never adjusted and stayed greasy. I have vegan shampoo and it seems easier than mixing the stuff together but I’ll try it sometime and give it a go
don’t want to be puting silly chemicals all over my head all the time!

@hannahrox1234 I’m planning on waiting until I have a long weekend from work, so that way if my hair looks gross it won’t matter much since I won’t need to go anywhere. So… since I plan on doing that, I believe I will be trying this before my shampoo runs out @love.saves.lives

I just use hot water to wash my hair. My sister does too.
Have been doing so for years and have no complaints.

I have been planning on trying the no-poo thing for a while. I am just a little scared about the whole adjustment period.

Well, I’m pretty new here, (okay, really new) but I was just wondering if anyone else has heard of the no-poo method? Honestly, in my profile pic, it’s not been shampooed for a couple months now and honestly, it works great. Buuuuuuut I was also thinking that it would be a good thing for animals too, it’s always difficult to know for sure whether or not a product is animal friendly, and this whole thing basically eliminates that risk! All i use is baking soda, lemon juice, and water, so I know that there are no animal ingredients or testing, and like I said, the results are amazing! I was just looking for thoughts on this & to get the word out, and partially looking for friends around the site (: any input is welcomed!
