So, from what I’ve seen so far, is PETA only for vegetarians/vegans? I consider myself to be a strong animal rights activist/environmentalist and I don’t eat meat often (tofu!!). However I feel like a hypocrite for joining peta2 and still eating meat…
PETA is of course a very Vegetarian/Vegan organization, so it’s obvious that they are going to urge us to become Veggie/Vegan. BUT, they also help companion animals, animals used for entertainment, and etc. You shouldn’t feel bad.
It’s just that dropping meat & dairy from your diet is such an easy way to prevent a tremendous amount of pain and suffering.
If you can’t make that small sacrifice even though it will prevent so much pain and suffering, you have some soul searching to do.
However, whether you decide to drop the meat & dairy or not, you should not leave PETA.
A person who consumes meat & dairy while spending time fighting for animals rights is better than someone who consumes meat & dairy while not fighting for animal rights (even if it is hypocritical).
Just remember that you don’t need to consume the body parts & excretions of tortured & murdered animals, and you can prevent a lot of completely unnecessary pain and suffering by choosing not to.
Like my avatar says: imagine yourself in their position.
I could see how it may appear that way, but all you need to do is look at the issues section and you’ll know that not what it’s all about. Obviously PETA prefers that you go veggie, but if you can do your part to protect animals from any type of exploitation or abuse, and just to promote humane treatment towards animals in general, then you are *of course* welcome to join PETA!
@yingying123, you don’t have to be a vegan or vegetarian to support PETA. I’m glad you’re here & hope you’ll stay. You can make a world of difference for animals just by taking actions on the peta2 street team.
