So one of my good friends, a meat eater, started an online argument on facebook the other day about me choosing not to eat meat. It went on for a while and I had a good case going for me. Me and my friend are both Christians and my parents have always told me that God put animals on earth so we could eat them but I know in my heart of hearts God did not put them on earth to be abused. If you are a christian and you struggle with this comment like I had in the past let me tell you how the argument between me and my friend went from him saying he was right to having him shake my hand in front of all our friends in the cafeteria and letting them know that I had won.
”Eating meat or not is a personal choice but my conscious is a little clearer every time I avoid it. I told you a couple of my reasons why based on fact and statistics. You base your reason on opinion. So I’ll be the first to say no you don’t understand and that’s not a put down because I once thought I could never stop eating meat but after I did the research I realized that I can give meat up in exchange for the positive effects of a vegetarian lifestyle. In the bible it says that we can eat meat and before Jesus died on the cross animals were used as sacrifices but Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice so we no longer need to burn our best animals as an offering. In biblical times the animals used to eat were treated differently. No one had thousands of animals in crowded cages driving them mad, having them result in violence and cannibalism, forcing pills down their throat. These are creatures that feel fear and pain as easily as a household pet. God does not condemn me for cutting out meat. Ecclesiastes 3:19 says
”For what happens to the children of man and what happens to the beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts, for all is vanity.” Every time I eat a piece of meat I am blindly contributing to animal abuse. God has mercy over all his creations and I want a heart like his. Just because we can slaughter does not mean we should.”
I am a christian and I will stand up for animals.
Yes. But it also says that you shouldn’t look down on someone by what they eat. Christians should be peaceful which means they shouldn’t force their beliefs on another person. All the same we try to spread need about the gospel so that a person may willingly accept Jesus as their lord and savior and be with him in heaven. Vegans and vegetarians should tell their friends what they are doing and why but if we threaten our friends to do it we will not only lose the friend but they might lose interest in the vegan diet altogether. I told my boyfriend about me going vegetarian, he listened and now he is one too.
