Queen’s Brian May could be heading for an unlikely hit with his protest song inspired by the badger cull.

Save The Badger, Badger, Badger was made by May and internet entertainer Weebl and features Brian Blessed.

It has reached the top 40 in the iTunes download chart and is the most popular track in the top 10 rock chart.

Blessed said: “Brian May is inspirational and together we will beat the dark forces and save the badgers.”

About 5,000 of the animals are expected to be shot in Somerset and Gloucestershire over six weeks.

Supporters say the cull is needed to tackle bovine TB but those against it, including the RSPCA, say it is ineffective and inhumane.

May said: “The people are speaking in their many thousands, and yet the Government is refusing to listen.

“We thank them for giving badgers a voice. Let’s get this to number one so Cameron cannot avoid it.”

    May’s anti-cull e-petition has already gathered over 286,000 signatures.
