In New York, there is a puppy mill where numerous dogs (adults, as well as puppies) are being kept outside without appropriate shelter.
People have been going out to check on them (not trespassing, viewing from the road), and it’s been reported that many of them are injured, and have developed frost bite in the extreme weather.
There have also been reports of deaths.
There have been thousands of complaints made about it, but police seem to be turning their heads.
The facebook page for supporting these dogs is: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Save-the-dogs-from-Flat-Creek-Border-Collies/514496288658252
I’m going to try to get in touch with the local government out there, and see if getting a set number of signatures on a petition would bring forth any sort of action. For now, the facebook page has contact information to send complaints.
Just as an update, the breeder was finally taken to court, and the majority of the dogs were removed from his property and placed in kennels. The ones he was allowed to keep were required to be kept indoors.
It appears that some of the police offers were charged with something as well, for not doing anything when the dogs were obviously in danger.
I’m glad things worked out, and they’re safe for now… Unfortunately, the breeder is allowed to get his dogs back when he builds better shelter for them.
Personally, I don’t think someone who allowed them out in those conditions in the first place should be permitted to have -any- animals. But… At least they’re safe, for now.
