I have a pair of old leather boots that my neighbor gave me. I didn’t pay or support the company that made them in any way, so is it okay to wear them? Also, what if you buy fur from second hand stores? If the money is going to a local charity and not the company that made the product, is it ethical to buy them? Just wondering what other people’s thoughts were…
I personally wouldn’t wear anything made from animal. When I changed over to a vegan lifestyle, I donated all of my wool and etc. to people in need. But like @CarolineS said, it’s up to you, no matter what.
Ultimately you’re ethical decisions and morals are up to you.
People can only spread light on what their opinions are.
Personally, I wouldn’t want to own anything that came from an animal like fur or leather, simply because I would feel really uncomfortable wearing it… I would think too much of what the animal had to go through and what not. And it creeps me out… if their skin is being used to cover me O.o
Some vegans , however, still have leather shoes, but only if they have been purchased from a thrift store. Because they didn’t support the industry by purchasing it there.
You must understand that people always look for one thing to pick at and criticize vegans for. they might not care about anything you say because they won’t want to listen to you , and just use that against you. Make sure you stay with what you believe and know how to defend and speak intelligently and strongly about your decisions. :]
