I have a snake, and I don’t have vegan qualms about feeding my snake mice, and I’ll tell you why::
we have a choice in what we eat, snakes do not.

I don’t think I could personally feed a snake, but I do feed my lizard, which is kind of different because he eats bugs, but on the domestic question, it’s kind of the same. Of course, he’s not from a pet store directly, but from someone who needed a new home for him, so… It’s complicated… He flourishes in captivity though, and I’m mainly opposed to animals who don’t handle captivity well.

I don’t think anyone should own them. Though my boyfriend wants to own a snake at some point so we will see. At the same time my cats are indoor /outdoor cats and they catch and eat rodents. Though its obviously better for them to be catching wild ones than ones raised by crappy pet suppliers. They also have normal cat food to eat so they don’t eat them that often. If you think about it though cats, dogs and a lot of other animals are eating dead animals in their food as well.

I may be a little biased, because my favourite animals are rats, but what are your thoughts on snakes? They do eat rodents such as rats and mice, but they need to for the most part. There are foods you can buy for snakes that aren’t rats or mice, but snakes often won’t eat them. Then there’s the option to feed the rodent dead, rather than alive.
I still don’t like it. I don’t like pet snakes, but I am completely okay with snakes it the wild, because that way, it’s natural, and the rodent isn’t set right in front of the snake to eat, unable to have a chance to get away and live. Not to mention, I don’t think snakes are domesticated enough, and that they should never live in captivity.
I was just wondering about what you guys think of pet snakes, or if you’d ever own one?
