Any tips or good foods ! I will tell you what I ate today; Applejacks w/ almond milk. Fruit for lunch & for dinner I will have stir fry. Any good recipes ya’ll can share ? I live in W.V so finding substitutes in this rural town is hard. But I would like to know what you use for butter, I know oil is good… & any sub for creamer for coffee ? Also I hate beans the only kind I like is green so that takes away from foods I can eat & peas don’t like them. I am going to try & find tofu though and make some meals. But I really need some help !

Even though all these bad things are around like in foods, we just got to do our best to keep healthy.

Yeah, the ground is crazy tainted. I really don’t have the words to describe it, infuriating and sad at the same time, maybe?
What do you mean by that last line? I’m confused =/

No I haven’t but we have a garden here, & they even try to screw on that because of the soil it’s grown on. But we do what can to survive w/ ingredients that are not meant for us to consume.

I freakin’ hate g\\having to drink coffee black >.< They make vegan powdered creamer, but it's so expensive =/
I agree with you on corn syrup and all of that. I go out of my way to not buy food with that junk in it. On the subject of coffee, and there's a lot of other food that fall under the same category, if it's been around as long as the printed word, I'm going to just assume it's fine to eat, as far as safety goes, haha
Have you ever seen Food Inc. ? You'll never want to go to a store again. I watched that and decided I'm having an organic garden, but it's disgusting, how corrupt and tainted the food industry is. Our country has such strong lobbyists, that the amount of crap that's allowed to slide is jaw dropping.

Yeah I don’t know yet about the creamer haven’t tried it.. but I can drink coffee just black, & I think I am going to have to at work black & sugar. The tofu is soft without the water I think . I already made it as eggs & it was okay.. I will need to do more recipes . & about the fake meats soaked in soy protein & conola, my mom told me about them & she heard from a good source I’m sure of it. I will let you know . But I rather be choosey when it comes to fake meats anyway.. and once in a while I don’t think it could hurt but everyday it might.. like the other food things like High fructose syrup, Sucralose & artificial flavors .. I stay away from them as well. But every now & then I will eat something like that.. & as in 100percent vegan I say that because their are so many what if’s and depending on what you eat you don’t know if something has just the tiny bit of animal product & you would never know especially here . But I am trying my best. Yeah I know it’s like one day they say coffee is good for you & the next they say it’s not, but really I think it is, I mean it’s a bean used for energy it’s healthier then drinking a red bull everyday … & then you also don’t know what or who to believe .. that’s why I go on people I trust and experiences because people can either tell you what they think or they can be misleading you on purpose.. so it’s hard and it seems like the people who are in charge like to sabotage food either to hurt people or get more money like steroids in cows…

I would have added this to my post, but the way peta has this set up, you walk away from your post and you’re no longer able to edit.

Everything, and I mean everything has an article/study for and against it. Seriously, they do. I just now found one saying olive oil is outrageously dangerous to your health. The trick is to read both and research and find which one is reputable, or is even half correct. Believing everything you read and hear off the bat is not the best way to do things, it’s really not. I used to not question anything, and I bought into some less than savory schools of thought and acted by them. And this applies to more than just vegan living.

Coming from someone who adores anything coconut, unless you’re finding the so delicious coconut CREAMER, you do not want to put plain drinking coconut milk in your coffee. It’s way too watery and just tastes really not good.

When you say soft tofu do you mean silken or the soft variety that comes packaged in water? The kind that comes packaged in water, firm is the best, you can can use for almost everything. From tofu scrambles to fried, it’s great. Mori-nu (the silken kind) is really only good for baking and other desserts.

I still buy things that say it may contain traces or made on shared equipment. It’s a cover-our-asses-label for companies and really only meant to alert those with super severe life or death allergies.
Food wise, it’s totes possible to be 100% vegan, it just gets expensive, having to hunt down brands that don’t have any of those items ever touch their equipment(like Daiya or Turtle Island foods, all items are made on dedicated vegan machinery)

Many moons ago, I did find an article, it was the only article, that supported your claim that a particular variety of soy stuff was dangerous. I just now googled again, trying are sorts of word combos and got nothing. I would love to see what article/study you’re refereeing to. I’m not trying to fight, I really want to know.
I used to be super paranoid of canola oil too. I stopped using it completely for cooking(even now I only use olive oil because it’s so healthy and tastes a million times better) but i found an article on Care2(awesome sites for vegans, the healh and eco conscious) that explained, and had sources, that canola oil is not as evil as we think, in certain situations. I am still looking for the one I read, but if you can find organic canola oil, you’re set. But even so, occasionally, is not dangerous. People have been consuming canola oil since World War II, and studying it since not long after, and so far the only danger that has appeared is that is was a GMO product.

Yeah I know because the product is made in the same factory.. but I guess I will on some things.. I know that not everyone is 100% vegan unless you eat raw, but I had to stop eating butterbread because it contains less than 2% of milk and butter so I have to eat something else. Food now a days is so confusing and you don’t what products to trust sometimes.

I have purchased and eaten snacks that had the traces of milk warning.
These days, I stay away from them primarily because it grosses me out to think there could be some milk in there. There is a minor health concern too but no moral concern.

Do you all by products that say: this may contain traces of milk ??

&& yeah fake meat cooked in soy protein & the conla oil I don’t try to touch just because of what I have been told, not good for you & that is what I believe too. But I got Earth balance from Walmart & I looked at all of them but they all have conla oil but I still got it.. taste pretty good. Yeah the coffee creamers I am good on, I am going to try coconut as soon as my almond is gone. I got the soft tofu from walmart and it’s okay the taste is fine & it makes a good sub for eggs.

I know I’m a touch late to this, but, like someone else said, most non dairy milks work awesome as coffee creamer. I prefer almond milk, and the Blue Diamond or Aldi store band, Silk almond milk is just waaaaay too thick for me. So try and see which ones you like best.

If your walmart carries earth balance, they should have the variety that’s canola oil free. The other thing to take into consideration is Earth balance is 100% GMO free, and canola oil is actually a natural product, and prefectly safe, you just have to make sure is the right variety(non gmo and there’s something about expeller pressed, but I can’t remember if it’s expeller or non expeller pressed that you want to buy). If Earth Balance or Smart Balance light is too expensive, Blue Bonnet light is vegan, but it’s not healthy at all.

Since you live in a nip cheese town(as do I) it’s hard to find non soy faux meats(they exist! I’ve found them on brand’s websites), though, there is absolutely no proof that isolated soy protein is dangerous when consumed. it;s dangerous for the employees manufacturing these products, but that’s about it. After a while, you won’t find those faux meats very good. I used to go nuts for boca crumbles and nuggets and Tofurky slices, now I would rather have tofu or seitan or mushrooms.

Which leads to another point, seitan is amazing tasting and amazingly easy to make. If you can get a hold of Veganomicon, there’s a super simple recipe for seitan. The best part is, everything can be bought at walmart. Making it yourself is like 10 times cheaper than buying seitan or any faux meat, and it tastes better too.

Your tastes will change as time goes on, especially when you step out of your comfort zone, if only even slightly. I used to be just like you, I detested all beans except baked beans and green beans(which aren’t actually beans, no idea why we call them that), and zucchini and egg plant. Now all of those are my favorite foods. I can’t tell how quickly I used to burn through a case of black beans.

Another good thing to do is browse around the websites of animal rights groups. They always have a handful of bamf recipes. Compassion Over Killing, Vegan Outreach, and Choose Veg are some great places to start. If you happen to have a well stocked library, go check out some vegan cookbooks, and try some recipes. The Everything Vegan Cook Book, Vegan with a Vengeance, and The Student’s Go Vegan cookbooks are amazing, those last 2, I’ve never had a bad recipe from them and I’ve cooked about 20-25 recipes from each of those. If you can’t find them at the library, all 3 are really cheap on Amazon, and I promise you will not be disappointed.

When/if you find some tofu, make sure you prep it right or it’s gonna taste like absolute crap. You need to press it, which means putting it on a plate and placing another plate with a cast iron skillet if you have one, on top, loaded with cans. Let it sit an hour, flip and repeat. Fry, bake it, marinate do whatever you want at that point.

Most important, unless it’s an allergy, you CAN eat whatever you want, it’s that you CHOOSE to not eat certain items.

@NicoleLynne Glad it was just a one off thing (about the fruit for lunch). I just had to say that as many new veg*ns can get ill or feel really tired then blame it on going veg*n, when really it’s just that they’re not eating right or eating enough.

Im 17 years old about to turn 18. I have been vegetarian since I could remember. Tried meat for a year when I was about 14 and then stopped. I drink wine every once in a while if you were wondering about my profile pic. Yes I am classy like that. Anyway, stop animal cruelty and support gay rights and marriage equality!
