So today someone asked me: If plants could communicate and if they could feel pain and potentially cry would it still be okay to eat them in a vegetarians eyes? I then answered well I don’t eat animals because of many reasons. One is the conditions in slaughter houses. I then went into detail about that… then realized plants are mass produced. I then found myself conditioning myself in my brain. I would never eat an animal again but… I’m curious what you guys have to say…

Plants can’t feel, and I don’t think they will evolve to do so. So therefore, this question isn’t even possible. (:

Plants can’t feel, so I personally find the question to be silly.

I’ll go ahead and answer, though. Let’s say plants could feel pain, and we’d have absolutely no other alternative to make for a cruelty free life. There are instances when you have to put your health first, and in a world where you could not survive without harming others.. this would be a necessary evil.

Once again, though, this is not the case and we do not need to harm others to sustain ourselves. Woo! :)

Well, we have to eat something to live. So, if plants were able to feel pain, a vegan diet is still the best way to minimize the suffering of plants. If plants could feel pain, and we continued to eat animals, we would be harming even more plants (because we use them to feed the animals before we slaughter them). If we take animal slaughter houses out of the equation, plant suffering is drastically reduced because the demand for them is lower. If plants could feel pain, I would continue to eat a plant based diet because its the most ethical thing (for the plants and the animals).
