So, I was just thinking away today. In Illinois, shot gun hunting season started, ugh,,dfskjldhflskjdhfjksdjkfhjksdasdafsd. Anywhoozels, would you guys eat and kill an animal if you had to do it for survival? Like if you were in the desert, and a rabbit came by, you had the chance to kill it and eat it for SURVIVAL. What would you do? Just curious. I really don’t know what I’d do. I’m conflicted. Anyways, tell me what you’d do! Xx

    exactly what @vegancaramel said.
If there is a live rabbit, then there is foliage for the rabbit to eat.
The only place you might really be stuck is in like… Antarctica… but if you’re stuck in Antarctica, you’re pretty much screwed anyway.

I feel like this is completely different from what we are doing today. Today, we are keeping animals locked up in cages, tunnels, having them ripped apart while still alive. None of this is necessary. Yet, let’s take a history lesson for a moment: the indians (before colonials decided they didn’t belong here. Idiots) The Indians hunted and killed. That was their only means of food, warmth, decor. But you know what else? They didn’t hunt and kill all of the time. They didn’t remove the animal from its natural habitat to “get the best meat possible”
So, to answer your question. If I was stranded somewhere and a land/sea creature went by and it was my only available food, I personally would probably catch it. I believe it’s different from the exploitation that is happening currently.

If a human died and you had to eat them for SURVIVAL would you?

No, I prob. would not. Same applied to an animal. I do not view “meat” as a food, it is unnatural to our bodies.

There was once a time when people HAD to eat meat to survive. I don’t know if that was the right choice or not, but the human instinct is to survive, and back then, the only way you could get enough calories was to eat meat or die.I don’t think humans were meant to eat meat, but when food became scarce (especially in the Ice Age, when plants were dead), I think they didn’t have much of a choice. I don’t know what I would do in this situation, but I think those times are far behind us and until the time comes when the only choice is to die or eat an animal, we should just do what we can to help animals right now, like SassyVegan said. :)

Just look at Jane Goodall; she was vegetarian and she lived in the jungles of Africa isolated for years. However, Desert Jack Rabbits are herbivore animals and research shows that not even these little animal experts get enough protein and vitamins in the desert. Instead, they are reduced to consuming fecal matter. The way I see it, if a herbivorous animal has a hard time surviving in the desert, I should have no shame in not being able to survive easily either.

I like what SassyVegan said; because she is right . If that actually happened which it might.. like food shortages, or something similar to that. People would have to eat something, hunt for themselves & just roots & fruits are not going to be enough, so meat would have to be involved. & Everyone can tell you what they think they would do but, if it ever happened they would have to go through then they can say what they did. It’s all talk until it actually happens. But if I had to guess most people whould eat anything that doesn’t kill you if they were starving.

    I’d rather die.
All it takes is imagining myself in the position of the rabbit.
The rabbit isn’t food; she’s a thinking feeling being who wants to live as much as I do (probably more than I do).
The rabbit doesn’t deserve to be murdered by me just because I was dumb enough to get myself stuck in the middle of a desert.

However, this is just my personal choice.
It’s not a choice based on a belief that it is universally wrong to murder another being to save your life in a genuine life-or-death survival situation like this (a situation in which you absolutely, positively will die unless you murder).

If you’re pondering this issue, ask yourself this:
If you were trapped out there with another human, would you be willing to murder and eat that other human to survive?
Because, if you would be willing to murder the rabbit and not the human, you may not have broken free from your speciesist upbringing as much as you thought.

Stupid argument. What do you think most of the animals eat for the most-part? Besides you ARE NOT stranded anywhere. I would eat what the rabbit is eating.

I hate the survival question, it’s so dumb and unlikely to happen in 1st world countries. I couldn’t kill an animal…hell, I didn’t even have the heart to squash some african land snail eggs that had no foetuses in yet.

I was reading Thanking the Monkey last night and the exact same scenario was used. Anyways, no, that rabbit has as much of a right to live as I do. If there’s rabbits, then there’s vegetation close, and that’s where wild edibles come in.

No no no no no!! This is such a dumb question that’s always going to be asked!
Why wouldn’t I? Because I’m vegan! I’ll eat grass or some fruits or berries or something. If not, I’ll just die off. It’s all good.
And besides, how likely is that anyways? Not much. But *if* this happens, what I just said is what I’d do.

I don’t think anyone can predict what they’d do in a situation like that. Instead, I try to focus on what I can do for animals TODAY in the situation that I’m in RIGHT NOW. It’s interesting to think about the “what if’s” but I wouldn’t get too hung up on them. :)

If there’s a rabbit in the woods, ask yourself what he was eating.
    Then, go eat that.

The survival question is tired out, it’s been asked way too many times by meat eaters who think they’ve finally “beat” you.

Life summary : I love animals even more than people

  • jpatr1d

I have always loved animals, no matter what shape, size, color, species they are. I started as a vegetarian a few years ago, but i only knew that i didn't want to eat animal. i stoped for a while when i lost my job and ate what i could. no excuse i know. but soon later to realized my mission in life and purpose. i am here to be the voice of those who do not speak human. i changed my outlook to this because i found a boxer mix dog laying under my porch. she had gotten hit by a car and was severely starved. everyone around me was like leave it alone, you don't know where it came from, but i didn't care i had to save her. i rushed her to the emergency vet clinic where they did immediate surgery on her. despite those peoples commentary i saved a dogs life and from that point on i knew that if people treated a dog that way i wonder how people treat non domestic animals. I researched and came across peta2 where i now am an animal activist and vegan. I continue to help and save animals that i find and plan on never changing my ways for any one.
