  • Talking teacher out of dissection?

I am a junior in high school, and for my Anatomy class I will have to dissect a cat next semester. Both me and my friend Harley are completely against this, and when approaching my teacher he simply said “you girls will be fine, we don’t EAT the cats.” Does anyone have tips on how I can work my way out of this completely unethical assignment?

    Hey @Youngblood16,

Ugh- how awful! You should try politely explaining to her that cats used for dissection are often strays that have been picked up off the streets, unwanted animals taken from shelters, or even people’s companion kitties that have been stolen from their yards! And depending on where you live (what state!) your school may be in a district with a dissection choice policy (meaning that by law she is required to give you the option not to dissect!). Check out which states have dissection choice policies here: http://features.peta2.com/cut-out-dissection/step-two.aspx!

If you need more help with this, you can email us at peta2@peta2.com and we’ll help you sort this out!

Use something like this- but write it to your principal! http://features.peta2.com/cut-out-dissection/images/Cut-Out-Dissection-Sample-Letter.docx
