• Trouble at Tyson

According to the New York Times, Tyson Foods, the nation’s largest meat company, reported a huge drop in net income for the last quarter. Tyson attributes this drop in profits to lower consumer demand for chicken and beef, as well as to debt-related charges. The company has lowered its expectation of full-year profits by $1 billion due to the lower demand for meat.

With more consumers recognizing that animals are individuals with unique personalities and interests, demand for animal products has started to decline. The choices we make as consumers truly have the power to create change. You can accelerate this change by adopting a plant-based diet, and encouraging others to do the same.

With the price of meat increasing and more people being open to Meatless Mondays and cutting back on meat overall, they should expect to keep declining. I would love to see if this country could support a number like 30% veg population.

Well… as great as this is, this also might be affected by the drought gripping the mid-west, a.k.a. cattle country. With beef food as well as water prices on the rise, the actually cost of producing the beef is probably considerably higher. However, it is a new age, and therefore the increase in vegetarianism is most certainly helping too.
