Okay so I just wanted to make this known. I have loved ugg boots ever since they first came out but I had never known how cruel it was to not buy anymore. Since I love how they look I decided to contact a representative to see if they had any faux fur ones. This was my experience..
    Jeremy:
Hello Madeleine, how may I help you today?
    Madeleine:
hi i was wondering if you had any faux fur uggs
    Jeremy:
Give me one moment to double check for you.
    Madeleine:
    okay thank you
    Jeremy:
You’re welcome Madeleine, I apologize, but unfortunately, all of our products are made with natural sheepskin. At this time we do not offer faux fur products.
    Madeleine:
okay how is it that your animals are being treated though.
    Jeremy:
Well all of our materials come from the meat industry, so we do not have a hand in how the animals are raised.
    Jeremy:
Seeing that they are being raised as a food source, and we don’t permit unethical treatment, it is safe to say that we would not purchase materials from anyone we knew were mistreating their animals.
    Jeremy:
    Are you still there Madeleine?
    Jeremy:

Guess what? They just lost a costumer.

Exactly though, if you don’t know why or what the video is on if there is even a chance it could be used just for UGGs why bother and take that risk to buy em. Either way used for meat or not wearing uggs states that you don’t mind that you are wearing an animals skin. & it really does go against everything AR stand for & PETA. If you care at all about those sheep you would not wear UGGS . The more people buy and wear them the more business they get and that means to make more money they will need more sheep.

…. the best way to wear Uggs is to buy the fake ones from China. They’re cheaper and they use fake fur.

@Caduceuse Even though it is ethically wrong many companies lie to their consumers. Uggs could lie to Madeleine easily about the source of the skin. Saying they buy it as a by-product sounds better than it being freshly killed just for the skin. Think of all the companies that have lied over time like McCruelty, Monsatan, and a lot more trust me.

Aside from the source of the skin think about this. You want to fight for AR right? It would be hypocritical to wear the flesh of a dead animal and say you oppose animal cruelty. It gives the message that it’s okay to wear the flesh of an animal. Not everyone is going to know that the skin is by-product by just looking at them.

Also, buying Uggs who use by-product skin means the meat industry is making a profit. Buying Uggs would support the meat industry and that would be even more hypocritical. But here are some nice cruelty-free alternatives. http://girliegirlarmy.com/style/20110125/the-best-vegan-uggs-ever/

If all that is true how would you explain that video ? They don’t care UGG’s is all about making money and if you believe any different you are foolish.

@Caduceuse Animals are definitely being killed for these boots. :( In the Australian wool industry, lambs are forced to endure a gruesome process called “mulesing,” in which huge chunks of skin and flesh are cut from the animals’ backsides, often without any painkillers. Once their bodies are worn out and they stop producing as much wool, they’re shipped to overseas slaughterhouses, where their throats are slit while they’re still conscious. Check out this video for more info:

@Caduceuse listen, you shouldn’t be on this website if you approve of actions that harm animals. This is for vegan activists and if you believe that uggs are okay then you need to leave this website…

There are so many UGG products that I am sure they kill sheep just for the products. I don’t get how people just come up with one simple fact to make it sound more humane because the sheep are killed for food, therefore their skin is up for grabs.. this world is cruel and it’s not humane what they do. No kind of fur is humane unless it’s fake. Period point blank. If you want to save more animals lives you would wear faux fur.

Baby shoes? Blech! Nasty enough that people make soup with them. http://theseoultimes.com/ST/?url=/ST/db/read.php?idx=7333

@caduceuse So you would be alright with wearing boots made out of baby skin if the source was from aborted fetuses? I mean, they’re being aborted anyway, so at least that way they wouldn’t be wasted…

I’m glad you decided to stop supporting them. That’s less sheep who need to die for shoes. I hope people realize those shoes are just a fuax pais.

even if you convinced to start making a vegan option, you would still be giving up a lot of money to a company that obviously prefers cruelty.

Aw… I hear ya ! I like the way they look too but at a sheep’s expense that is awful. & They are way overpriced maybe because they are real sheep fur & that makes all the difference but it’s cruel. It would be great if they could make faux-fur.
