For Christmas, my cats are getting a cardboard box filled with crumpled up receipts, and my Dog is getting a home-made coat and some home-made peanut butter treats.

If you’re looking for gifts for cats, I really wouldn’t put too much effort into it.
I have 5 cats, and a box full of expensive toys that never get played with because they were always more excited about the receipts from the purchase and the packaging that the toy came in.

Now my dog… she definitely loves toys. But I found out last week that she is just as happy chewing up a dollar bill as she would be chewing up anything I could buy for it.

Generally, what I have come to realize, is that when humans buy their pets gifts, it’s often more because the human thinks it’s cute than because the pet would like it.
You have no idea how many horrible looks I’ve gotten when I say I don’t get my cats toys, I just crumple up receipts for them, and give them empty boxes… but my cats LIKE them. Way more than regular toys. So I’m not going to get a little stuffed mouse for them to play with because that is what I’m -supposed- to get them, even though I know they wont like it.

You know what your animals like. So get them that And forget that the gift of love is the most important one you can give an animal. Besides you know… food, water, and shelter.

Are you looking for something for a friend’s companion? Remember that the animals themselves need nothing more than food, shelter, and love, so nothing shmancy will matter for them! If they like toys you could make one (make sure it’s not a choking hazard), or buy a little stuffed animal to chew. It sounds like those vegan shops should have one! Some animals like kongs, too, so maybe you could look into that.
If you’re still unsure, I bought vegan dog biscuits once for my dog’s birthday party and gave one to each guest, and it was a hit

I want to get some gifts for my favorite animal companions so I’m looking for gift suggestions, and especially for vegan-friendly shops. I’ve seen that Vegan Essentials has a great sister shop VeganCats with lots of dog and cat food, supplements, supplies, advice, etc. but not many gifty things. Any ideas for gifts? Info/links to shops?
