people grow up being taught that eating meat is natural and the right thing to do and that you need it for your body to grow and be healthy, but that’s not true, none of it. first gather information about why it is unhealthy to eat meat, two, gather info on all the healthy alternatives to meat, three gather info on the hormones and antibiotics the animals are forced to consume and what that does to the human body, also info on how much bacteria is on the stuff bought in store, 4 get info on the animals and how they are treated before they meat their end, and 5 sit down with her, knowing first that she will be open minded to the info you are about to show her, I know most old people are not open minded bc they are so set in their ways, old fashioned I guess you could call it, if you need to get her to be open minded try talking to her about how important it is that she takes in what you have to say and sees things from another perspective, and maybe after everything she will understand why you made the choices you did to not eat meat. if everything fails here, well at least you can say you tried, and go to your mother and have her sit and talk with her about how important it is to you and how much healthier it is ect.

Hey guys,
It’s great that you’ve decided to leave animals off your plate!
Be sure to share our “Making the Connection: Disease” page with your family members to get them on board: http://features.peta2.com/making-the-connection/disease.aspx. You also find some other awesome tips here: http://www.peta2.com/lifestyle/talking-parents-going-vegan/.

I can definitely relate to that! My grandparents say the same thing! You can ask them what nutrients she thinks you’re not getting enough of then show her all the plants that contain that nutrient. I really wish I could convince my grandparents too but i just ignore what they say because they always tell me “Jesus ate fish and he always does what’s right!”and “People hunted for their food in the bible!”… no matter how much I try to persuade them that he doesn’t want us to kill his animals, they just cannot seem to believe and understand. I know it can be frustrating.

About a little more than a year ago, I decided to be vegetarian and my grandma has never really approved of it. She keeps telling me that it’s bad and since I’m still growing (I’m 16) I “need” all the meat I can get. Also, I recently went to my doctor because I have tremors. She said it has nothing to do with my diet and I even told my grandma that, but all she replies with is that it’s just one opinion. She even got mad at my mom for allowing to be meatless. How can I explain to her, in a MANNERFUL way, that it’s completely okay and healthy for me to be meatless.
P.S. She’s kind of an “old-fashioned” person in saying that my veggie meat is nothing in comparison to the actual thing. She’s also told me that once I’m 18 she’ll be okay with me not eating meat.
