I saw a topic, and I posted earlier, but I want to make a separate topic specifically for this topic. I don’t generally like the idea of hijacking someone’s topic.

Anyway, what’s your personal beliefs, philosophically, religiously, and the like? Do you believe in the existence of a god, gods, or do you worship his Noodly Appendage? Are you an atheist, a theist, or simply believe there is no sure way of knowing? If you’re an atheist, do you believe in some “supernatural” things or completely reject all things pertaining to mysticism and the like?

Personally, I’m an atheist and a humanist. I also have a few philosophical views that originate from religions. I practice yoga. It calms me and opens me up to a time for instrospection and “meditation” in a sense. I’ve made major life decisions based on what I finally saw in a yoga asana. My favorite’s Chandra Namaskar (Moon Salutation). It’s a good philosophy to live by, the Yamas and Niyamas (aside from the concept of God).

Anyway. What are your beliefs and philosophies? I’m curious. :)

I am a christian, why? Because there is nothing to lose by believing, quite the contrary theres a lot to gain. All you need is faith. While being an atheist just leaves you with 1,000 questions about the how’s or whys of this or that, even though science tries to explain they all leave you in the same place. If you believe many things can be explained by faith, and many others can be explained by the bible. Theres nothing to lose by believing in God =) Do so and you’ll see how the blessings will come! but its not all nice~ Bad things also happen to those who love God, but “…in all things God works for the good of those who love him” In the end its all up to you wether to believe or not. But not be discouraged by bad christians not to believe in God, we are not all the same; The same way not all atheists are bad people like many christians imply. There are also many things that people call “good” and bible calls “bad” and believe me its hard not to call “good” many of those things, but at times like this exercise faith and study the bible. Regards!

I’m a proud practicing pagan. I don’t believe in a higher power as such, but I do believe that each of us possess a “divine spark”, if you will, that connects us to the world around us. I believe that each person on this earth has within us the qualities that we have built our gods to personify. For example, while I don’t believe that there is a Greek goddess of war chilling up on Mount Olympus waiting to hear my prayers, I may meditate on the idea and mythology of Athena to get revved up for a protest. I believe that every living thing on this earth is equal, and that we should not confuse difference with inferiority. We are all connected, and it is our duty to act as the gods of our own making and protect our brothers and sisters of all species. I see miracles in the changing of the seasons, and in the beauty of the world. I have no holy script to follow, but I do listen to and respect my elders. My beliefs can be summed up with the famous Wiccan Rede, “An it harm none, do what ye will.”

Let the religious flame war begin! I am an atheist, I find people that are extremely radical and in-your-face with their beliefs to be extremely annoying. I am for gay rights, in fact just went to what was basically a pride parade yesterday. I am myself straight though. I am sure that over time gays will be more accepted. I am a vegetarian, maybe in the future I’ll go vegan. That is all I can really think of on topic right now, I’ll come back later if I think of something else.

I’m an atheist, and well I believe some things are miraculous, I don’t believe in miracles. By miraculous I mean that I appreciate the value of things that are good that could have definitely gone another way. They aren’t actually miracles, but more a chance tribute to human spirit and the beauty of nature. If someone does something heroic unthinkingly with no thought to their own safety, that’s a boost to respect for human nature. Maybe this is wrong, and makes these things seem really unusual, but I find that miraculous. A butterfly fluttering is miraculous. They are not miracles, and in no way supernatural, but they are lovely, and deserve appreciation for the goodness and purity they possess.
