i go to school with and know alot of people who hunt. i think its wrong but i seem to be the minority in this opinion and its hard to avoid people who do this so i was just curious how you all feel about hunting and what you do when you are forced to talk to one

Don’t change your views just because they are the minority where you are. I know it’s hard, but we are with you!

Just because they don’t do something that you like doesn’t make them horrible… talk about something other than hunting is a start.
Around here hunters save lives, if they didn’t help control deer population there would be more deaths from deer vs car/bike accidents. Quite a few of our hunters go hunting for the meat, not just antlers and so forth.
Hunting doesn’t make one a bad person or evil… if they hunt with respect and to not cause a lot of suffering that is perfectly fine in my book. I’m against the “bad” hunters who don’t give a hoot and are just in it for the prize, and don’t mind inflicting much pain.
Just have to ask yourself, are they the bad hunters or good… and also if being a hunter condemns them from being a good person all around.

If people would hunt a limited amount of animals instead of eating factory farmed animals I guess that would be better than having animals live in cruel cramped spaces with hormones and diseases. But I know people who just hunt to hunt and dont eat it and waste a life. I wish people would stop eating meat but if people could limit it so just a little meat a week that’s better than no movement towards vegetarianism. If there were no factory farms that would be a miracle and if you wanted meat you had to take it in your own hands andactually see what happens.

I would NEVER hunt. Even if it was the zombie appocalypse I wouldn’t be able to hunt maybe only fish.

For me this is a tough subject to tackle as there are many reasons one would go hunting. Though I am against the consumption of meat both morally and to the point my body can’t process it anymore, I can not object to those persons hunting out of necessity for survival. Those who have the means to eat cruelty-free and choose to hunt not out of necessity but for luxury or sport are the ones I despise.

My boyfriend for example, members of his family him included, when they go hunting their intention is to cause the animal as little suffering as possible with one-hit kill shots. His brother was telling me that he stated doing that after his first misfire which mortally wounded his target not killing it. He told me with somewhat sadness in his eyes that it was his first and last mistake. He said to hear the sounds it made were gut wrenching and all he could bring himself to do was put it out of its misery and bury it. He said he’d rather bury his animal and come home empty handed then to know that the animal on his plate suffered. Hunting is actually the only way his family will acquire meat now. I told him that though I object to the killing of animals for human consumption I can respect how he goes about obtaining his meat.

Another note is they eat every edible part of the animal nothing goes to waste, and he won’t go out again until they are completely out. He also informed me that one buck, regardless of size usually feeds his family for up to 2 months.

I have a friend who only eats meat she’s killed and cleaned herself. She literally can’t eat store-brought meat – she can taste the difference and it makes her sick. I can respect that.

It’s wrong and I won’t do it, ever. But if people are doing it, oh well. I can’t stop them and besides, they won’t listen. The bad karma will hurt them later :P

I’m totally against “Sport” hunting.. I see it as completely pointless to kill something just to put his/hers head on your wall as a trophy… But when killing for meat and not wasting anything I wouldn’t be as against, like others have said they’ve lived a good wild life..

I hate how people treat hunting as a sport. I understand people who are forced to poach because they have no other choice, but to starve. Recreational hunting is disgusting and people who try to defend it by saying the population is getting too great don’t seem to realize that the population is at a whack because we humans crashed the food-chain by destroying their natural predators (wolves, mountain lions, etc.)

I, of course, oppose the eating of meat in any way shape or form. But I honestly don’t think hunting is nearly as bad as factory farms. Think about it. At least a hunted animal got to live a full enjoyable independent life!

This only applies to hunting for food of course. Hunting for sport should be outlawed.

“HUNTING ELEPHANTS??? what do you mean? That’s a typo….. right?”
No. It wasn’t. An elephant can provide over 5million calories in meat I believe. To get that much from tradition vegan crops, approximately 10 animals would die as a result. While meat is never vegan, one cannot with a consistent and logical moral system say it is okay to eat vegan crops but not hunt. They both kill wild animals and neither exploits animals- and as I point out with elephants, could require less killing to hunt. Plus, if you just want to avoid killing animals, why not be freegan? That harms even fewer animals. I disagree with those who claim suicide is a better so I won’t mention that- if you do any form of activism, you likely make up for the harm you cause by living.

I’m not really against hunting. In some cases, such as hunting elephants using using most or all of it, it could be considered more ethical than being vegan.

my whole mom’s side of the family hunts, but i still love them just as much. i absolutely hate hunting because i don’t see what gives us the right to kill other animals, but i don’t necessarily dislike people who hunt

i agree that hunting may be better for the animals because they lived a normal life however the people hunting arent necessarly thinking this when they are hunting mostly its for fun and the satisfaction of killing an animal thats what bothers me
