We all have those epiphanies that lead us into the “vegetarian/vegan light”. When (and what made you) did you go veg?

I found the veggies the way mum used to cook tastier than any non veg dish I ever had. So I thought why not give it a shot. And here I am 3+ years without meat.. :)

I didnt really like meat that much before, but I was at Chick-fil-a 2 years ago and I bit into my sandwich and was like “holy crap” this was really a chicken. I immediately went veg and love it(:
It was a bit hard at first because I went to a rigid Catholic school where you were a freak for caring about this and was confronted everyday about it.

I actually have a few reasons for turning vegetarian. I want to turn vegan though, and I’m convincing my mom to turn vegan. c:

    1. I saw “Farm to Fridge” on youtube.
    2. I felt like it.
    3. I barely ate meat as a meat eater, and even then I only ate chicken. Last time I had fish was when I was 2 or 3.
    4. My uncle was vegetarian, and I thought that’s why my Tutu-Wahine liked him so much.
    Aloha

Also Shelley from oppressthis.com made very VERY great points. Of course also it started with PETA! Thank you Peta!

I had been wanting to for years, and at first I was told no but now that they see me as old enough to make my own decisions I was told yes. I have always been great with and have loved animals, even in Alberta (known for their beef.) I have been on it for less than a month and have lost a bit of weight and have not put any back on (which is awesome) and I feel more awake and energized as ever! Love it!

I first went vegetarian because I had noticed I had gone the entire day without eating meat and wanted to see how long I could keep going. After a week, my mom decided to go buy me some veg foods because she was sick of seeing me eat macaroni all day. After about eight months, I went vegan when I checked this site out and went vegan for a year, but financial setbacks forced me to go vegetarian again. I’m in the process of going vegan again.

I originally went vegetarian because I found out that I had abnormally high cholesterol(aside from the amount of meat I ate, I lived a very healthy lifestyle and got plenty of exercise).
After going vegetarian, I began to explore the other reasons to live a meatless lifestyle and became a big supporter of those.

I learned a lot about vegetarianism at once.
I discovered that there were many very good reasons to stop eating meat and no good reasons to continue eating it.
Years later, I learned more about the meat & dairy industry after watching Meet Your Meat and that’s when I gave up dairy.

I personally was interested in the health angle first- I’d been losing weight for a few months prior, and then shifted my focus to eating healthy instead of simple deprivation. Several sites I’d looked at talked about vegetarianism, and I thought to myself,

“Well, I don’t eat much meat anyway, since a lot of it’s bad for you, I’ve heard it’s better for the environment, and I do like animals…”

So I googled “vegetarian,” and PETA was one of the first websites to come up. Now, I didn’t have a particularly great opinion of PETA, since I’d heard only negative feedback about them, and that “Mario Kills Tanooki” game had been one I’d been creeped out about before. I decided to go vegetarian anyway, though, and I embraced it quite quickly. I came back to the PETA website not long after, looking for stuff to solidify my decision, and, oh boy, I most certainly did. I’ve also gotten my better half to cut out his white and red meats, and he’s pretty horrified at how animals are treated in many places- he’s also the one who taught me to crawl out of my shell, and that it’s okay to be different. He’s been very supportive. NEVER WOULD’VE MADE IT THIS FAR WITHOUT YOU, BRO.

I'm currently cutting out my dairy products, too, because the pus is gross, and learning that it contributes to the veal industry is heartbreaking. Might go all the way to vegan, might not, you never know- but I'm never going back, that's for sure.

@demilais We are here for support! Remember all those cute animals you will be saving, and your health that will also benefit! Look around for some vegetarian friends, they aren’t extremely common, but it would surprise you who you will find. Good luck! :D

I’m pretty much set on being a vegitarian. I truly just wanted to help the animals and not eat them. My family are meat eaters so its pretty hard not having anyone else support you but its okay.

@EveLansink, it’s so cool that your mom is good at vegan baking! It took almost two years before my mom even tried on her own to make vegan baked goods (I think it was after I made a perfect batch of carrot cupcakes and she wanted to try it out). Even the parents that are completely against it in the beginning like mine can eventually become interested in healthy, tasty vegan food.

Life summary : I love animals even more than people

  • jpatr1d

I have always loved animals, no matter what shape, size, color, species they are. I started as a vegetarian a few years ago, but i only knew that i didn't want to eat animal. i stoped for a while when i lost my job and ate what i could. no excuse i know. but soon later to realized my mission in life and purpose. i am here to be the voice of those who do not speak human. i changed my outlook to this because i found a boxer mix dog laying under my porch. she had gotten hit by a car and was severely starved. everyone around me was like leave it alone, you don't know where it came from, but i didn't care i had to save her. i rushed her to the emergency vet clinic where they did immediate surgery on her. despite those peoples commentary i saved a dogs life and from that point on i knew that if people treated a dog that way i wonder how people treat non domestic animals. I researched and came across peta2 where i now am an animal activist and vegan. I continue to help and save animals that i find and plan on never changing my ways for any one.
