So, I’ve been thinking about that for a while now, and I really don’t know what I would do. I just figured here would be the best place to share.
I’m completely against animal testing. But I’ve been wondering what would be my reaction if I found out I’m sick. Not a little sick, a “might lead to death” sick, but, that could be easily cured by drugs that have been tested on animals. Would I take it, or would I try all the other natural options, with the risk of serious complications ?!
It would be kind of hypocrite of me to take the drugs knowing that I’m against animal testing. But, in the same time, not taking the drugs is a really huge risk to take.
Or the same situation but with a sickness that doesn’t kill you but for example, make you lose sight. Your life isn’t in danger but the complication is pretty huge.
Does anyone else ever thought about that ?
Have you come to a theoretical answer ? ( theoretical because of course, we never know what we would do facing the actual situation ).
Most medicines have been made with some type of animal testing involved. Even after animal testing stops the knowledge from previous testing will be used. I’m a diabetic and take insulin that was creating after testing on animals. The way I see it, animals saved me so I am more than happy to return the favor. However, for certain cases like a cold or certain aches there are homeopathic medicines and herbs you can take. Health food stores have them and you can look online for home remedies. Just make sure it’s legit.
I was in hospital and had to have surgery, the drugs I got given afterwards stopped me from potentially dying from a routine op. Sadly they are tested on animals, but in my situation I had no choice, but now I am healthy enough to get back on with sticking up for animals. Its sad that for me to live so many animals have to suffer
Yea but there are companies that don’t test on animals that sell deodorant and toothpaste etc. Though basically all drugs have to be tested on animals before they are given to people. I’ll quote the book Thanking The Monkey by. Karen Dawn
“Should we refuse animal-tested medicine? Oh, Please. There is no medicine not tested on animals. If we had the choice, we would take medicine not tested on animals, and we want that choice. In the meantime, how would we be helping the animals if we refused to take medicines that have been put through a battery of animal tests by a government beholden to the animal testing industry? If I were an animal who had died in one of those tests, the one person I would like to see kept strong by those medicines would be the person fighting to end superfluous animal testing.“
I basically fully agree with her. I mean now this means if you are really really sick as you said. Normally I don’t take any medicine unless I have too. Like I don’t take medicine for general pain, headaches, stomach aches, cramps, or when I have the flu etc. The only medicine I do take on a daily basis is birth control. Also if it got to the point where you were that sick those kinds of medicines also are extremely expensive, have extreme side effects, and aren’t going to always positively work.
