Kelly Anderson and Leonard Sun Voted Cutest Vegetarians Alive!
For our third annual Cutest Vegetarian Alive contest, peta2 received more than 3,500 entries from adorable vegetarians and vegans around the world. And we asked all of you to help choose the winners. The response was overwhelming this year, with more than 50,000 votes cast. It was a mighty close race, but big congrats go out to Leonard Sun and Kelly Anderson for taking home the top honors.
Name: Kelly Anderson
Age: 18
Location: San Antonio, TexasEver think that an English research project would change your life forever? That's what happened to Kelly two years ago, when she chose to do a paper on animal rights—she went vegetarian after that project, and she's now a full-fledged vegan. This girl in the heart of Texas' cattle industry says she finally feels like who she is supposed to be. Kelly volunteers at a local animal shelter weekly, and she will be going to college in the fall to study photography because her "dream is to somehow change the way people look at the world, at animal treatment, through photographs."
Name: Leonard Sun
Age: 19
Location: Boulder, ColoradoAll Leonard really needs to be happy is some tunes, a cup of coffee, and a good book. He went vegetarian three years ago because "meat is gross and unhealthy, and it's not fair to eat animals [just] because we can." Leonard likes to buy organic and fair-trade products, and he says he likes his pants tight, his shades big, and his headphones even bigger.
More than 3,500 adorable vegetarians sent us photographic evidence of their cuteness (and let's be honest, what could be cuter than compassion for all beings?) along with a number of great reasons why they went vegetarian. Cruelty to animals was definitely far and away the number one reason why people went vegetarian. Let's face it: Animals are subjected to countless horrors on factory farms and in slaughterhouses, and no one wants to support torture.
It's absolutely wonderful to see that more and more people are expanding their circles of compassion by leaving animals off their plates. What's stopping you from going vegetarian? It's easier than ever, it's absolutely delicious, and, of course, you can save more than 100 animals' lives every year simply by saying "No!" to meat. Give it a try today—who knows, maybe you'll be the Cutest Vegetarian Alive in 2009!
Do You Want to Be Crowned the Cutest Vegetarian Alive in 2009?
You've gotta go vegetarian first, of course! Making a change in your life that will allow you to spare animals' lives and feel and look great in no time is a no-brainer. Get the facts, then try your hand at some recipes. You'll be amazed at how easy it is to cut meat out of your diet.
We're looking forward to your entry next year!
