Café Tacvba's Vegan Revolution
As a founding member of Café Tacvba, Rubén Albarrán has toured the world and played for massive audiences. As lead vocalist and guitarist, Rubén has heavily influenced the band’s distinct Latin sound, which crosses over and appeals to all genres so seamlessly that enjoying Café Tacvba’s music can be a family affair!
Rubén is family, after all—he is vegan and has teamed up with peta2 to help save animals!
Rubén decided to go vegetarian after watching a documentary about slaughterhouses in his native Mexico. Later, he discovered the health and environmental benefits of a meat-free diet, which include:
- Saving animals! A vegan diet saves more than 100 animals each year.
- Reducing climate change and world hunger. A staggering 51 percent or more of global greenhouse-gas emissions (aka “super-dirty air pollution”) are caused by animal agriculture, according to a report published by the Worldwatch Institute.
- $aving money. Vegan options can be cheaper than animal-based products, and they reduce the likelihood of needing expensive medical care later in life.
I feel proud of this decision because I respect other lives and because I’m not eating anyone.
