Tegan and Sara Star in an Anti-Fur Ad

We weren’t sure if we’d be able to tear Tegan and Sara away from their day-to-day gig, which generally involves being twins, poking fun at each other, chumming it up with Neil Young, fashioning their hair into exotic masterpieces, performing catchy melodies, ripping on fur hags, and charming audiences worldwide. Fortunately, this Canadian folk-rock duo didn’t disappoint and agreed to star in peta2′s anti-fur ad saying, “If you wouldn’t wear your dog, please don’t wear any fur.”

Tegan and Sara's AdTegan and Sara, whose track “Walking With a Ghost” was recorded by The White Stripes, join a long list of celebs who are speaking out against fur, including P!nkTommy LeeLe Tigre, Simple Plan, Charlize TheronDennis Rodman, Pamela Anderson, David Cross, and Amy Sedaris.

Besides the fact that animals killed for their fur are drowned, beaten, gassed, strangled, or electrocuted, why did Tegan and Sara want to jump aboard the anti-fur bandwagon? “We just have no idea why anyone would want to wear fur,” explains Tegan. “I’ve never thought, ‘I want to wear an animal around my shoulders.’ Well, sometimes my cat—just for fun I would hold her there and she would get upset and meow at me—but I don’t think fur looks very good on people. It looks weird. I think it’s really unattractive and it’s ridiculous.”
