The Sounds' peta2 PSA

The Sounds' peta2 AdThe Sounds have played packed arenas and sold out shows around the world, but they recently sat down with peta2 to tell their fans one thing—that Canada’s club scene sucks! Every year, hundreds of thousands of seals are barbarically clubbed to death in Canada in the name of commerce. The Sounds and countless others are standing up for seals by telling the Canadian government what they really think about the fur trade.

Fronted by the always energetic and never shy Maja Ivarsson, The Sounds gained an avid following in their home country of Sweden before hitting the airwaves in the U.S. You may remember a little song called “Snakes on a Plane (Bring It)” by Cobra Starship that created quite a buzz in 2006, thanks to the supporting vocals of Maja Ivarsson, Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes, and William Beckett of The Academy Is …. Now The Sounds are lending their voices to a different cause—ending the Canadian seal slaughter. Since 2007, more than 500,000 seals have been bludgeoned to death for their skins in the annual massacre. With the 2010 Olympics quickly approaching, all eyes are on Canada, and musicians and celebrities from all over the world are speaking out for those who can’t speak for themselves.

Watch the video below to hear drummer Fredrik Nilsson and bandmate Jesper Anderberg’s thoughts about Canada’s annual bloodbath and how the best way to “have a clean conscience” is by never wearing any real fur.

If you haven’t signed our petition to help end the seal slaughter, now’s the time! Check out our Street Team for more ways to get active for animals. And be sure to keep an eye on The Sounds’ MySpace page to find out when they’ll be playing in your city!
