Whitechapel Says, 'Adopt, Don't Buy'

Tennessee six-piece Whitechapel have made a name for themselves as purveyors of heavy-hitting metal. Drawing on classic influences but bringing a thrash and urgency all their own, they’ve quickly set themselves apart and raised the bar for anyone else brave enough to step up to the plate. Now going to bat for peta2, bassist Gabe Crisp and guitarist Ben Savage deliver a hard-hitting message on behalf of shelter animals everywhere.

whitechapel adopt don't buy psa

When asked about his adopted dog, Logan, Whitechapel bassist Gabe Crisp echoed the sentiments of adoption advocates everywhere by telling peta2, “Adopting my dog was the best thing I’ve ever done. [I] [w]ould never trade him and the happiness he gives me for anything. Save a life and they’ll do the same for you.” Guitarist Ben Savage, pictured above with his dog, Bowser, added, “When you adopt an animal and give them plenty of love and a little discipline, they’ll love you for life.”

When you visit one of the 6 to 8 million animals in shelters across the U.S., you’re giving hope to an animal who’s all but out of luck. While pet stores and breeders continue their long-standing tradition of putting profits before ethics, the animal overpopulation crisis lingers in the background. The simple act of spaying one female dog can prevent more than 67,000 births in six years, yet breeders forcibly impregnate dogs to keep their litters in demand and exploit them for profit. Buying an animal from a pet store or breeder means denying a shelter animal a chance at life, while breeders capitalize on your purchase and the cycle continues.

If you’re considering adding a dog to your life—which you should be, because dogs are lovable, smart, furry little bundles of awesome—contact your local shelters and save a life.

I adopted a kitten someone had found in the street this summer. I named her Stella, she’s now 10 months old and she’s adorable. ♥
