If you’re from anywhere but there, Southern California generally conjures images of a tanned, toned, perky mainstream and a bustling punk scene. Granted, you’re probably dead-on, but SoCal generalizations need not apply when you think of Atreyu. Those who have already familiarized themselves with these lads know that Atreyu’s kind of melodic hard rock is more than that!
Wait a second … maybe reverting back to generalizations isn’t such a bad idea. Let’s switch gears for a second, just for the heck of it. You know those bands that appear to burst at the seams with intelligent, concerned, compassionate types? Well, Atreyu actually fits that bill. Take Atreyu’s vegetarian guitarist, Travis, for instance, who got dragged into a dark corner by PETA2 to talk veggie burgers for a while.
Of course, we can only talk about faux meats for so long before we get to the real deal, and the end result is sort of like the music that Travis produces—short, dark, and to the point. After all, when a person fervently discusses “Meet Your Meat,” it’s hard to emerge with something warm and tingly (even if veggie burgers were a hot topic).
After listening to Travis, you’ve just got to take the time to sit back and watch “Meet Your Meat,” too, to see what all the fuss is about. And afterwards, it might not hurt to purchase a few tickets to Ozzfest so that you can see Atreyu this summer and personally thank Travis for helping PETA2.
