The Black Maria Know a Bad Scene

With their hot 2005 album Lead Us to Reason and their sold-out gigs, The Black Maria have been transcending musical genres and birthing a new music scene. Vocalist Chris Gray, guitarist Kyle Bishop, and Mike De Eyre, who tickles the keys and thumps the bass, sat down with peta2 and told us what makes a bad scene—eating meat.

"It's bad enough that people are killing animals to eat ... the conditions that it's done under make everything a million times worse," Mike said. "It's just such a bad scene."

"The worst thing is veal," Chris added, saying that the veal industry is one of the most reprehensible of all types of factory farming. Calves are separated from their mothers at birth and put into a tiny pen with no room to move, and after 14 weeks in darkness, they are shipped off to slaughter.

What most people don't know is that the veal industry could not survive without the dairy industry. Dairy cow mothers are living "milk machines," and their calves are industry surplus. "We're the only species on the planet that drink another animal's milk. Why?" Kyle asked. Good question! Kyle has some other crazy facts, too.
