Check Out Skater Brian Delatorre

Satori is well-known in the skating world for its animal- and eco-friendly ways, which has always made the company a favorite of ours! Through our friendship with the Satori movement, we got hooked up with yet another awesome skater, Brian Delatorre, who was sweet enough to take a break from working on a Creation Skateboard video to talk to peta2. The vegetarian skater, who spends his days hangin' with his pooch, Loopa, and hitting up his favorite San Francisco skating hot spots, isn't afraid to speak his mind about everything from KFC to dissection to those nasty fur-wearers. After you read Brian's interview, be sure to check out some awesome footage of him ripping the rails, but don't stop there. Listen to Brian's advice about the most effective way of dealing with KFC—ya know, that company that slaughters more than 850 million chickens every year—and pledge to boycott KFC until the company changes its policies.

So what's new and exciting in the skating world?
Just skating every day and working on the new Creation skateboard video.

What are some of your favorite places to skate, and why?
I like to skate all around the streets of San Fran … just waking up and bombing a hill feels good.

Do you have any companion animals?
I have a dog named Loopa. She can ride a skateboard, but only for treats.

peta2 is currently running a campaign against KFC. We are simply asking KFC to implement basic humane methods for caring for chickens and put an end to practices such as slitting the birds' throats while they're still conscious and allowing some birds to be scalded to death in feather-removal tanks. What do you think is the most effective way of dealing with KFC?
Don't buy their food. Don't support them.

If you could say anything to Col. Sanders, what would it be?
You should start using soy protein and stop killing chickens!

What are your feelings on fur and people who choose to wear it? Do you think most people are ignorant about where it comes from, or do they just not care?
I think people are in their own world most of the time, so I think they really don't care. … I'm totally against it.

Do you think kids should be given alternative choices to dissection?
Yeah, for sure! Dissecting is gross. Kids should be able to choose whether or not they wanna dissect.

Why do you think it's important to speak out about issues that you feel strongly about?
It just is! Everybody should be able to speak their minds.

On a much lighter note, if you could pick one animal that you most relate to, which animal would it be and why?
Dog … man's best friend.

What's up next for Brian?
Skate, skate, and skate. Stay healthy, keep a level head on things, and enjoy life.

Live life to the fullest.
