Miss May I Talks Animal Adoption

By Chelsi Schriver

Although Miss May I is often perceived as loud and aggressive, we discovered a soft side … and we have the video footage from the interview to prove it! Lead vocalist Levi Benton sat down with peta2 to chat with us about his adopted beagle, Buster; how he came to join the Miss May I family; and why adopting from animal shelters is so important. Check out our exclusive interview!

You know that we like our music fast, loud, and powerful here at peta2. Miss May I is all of that, and then some. The band's lyrics convey a positive message with a lot of compassion, and Levi has some strong opinions about animal adoption. An estimated 6 to 8 million homeless, lost, and abandoned dogs and cats enter U.S. animal shelters each year. Roughly half of them must be euthanized because of a lack of good homes, so if you're considering bringing an animal companion into your family, adoption is the only logical choice.

Animal shelters are bursting at the seams for several reasons. First, when dogs and cats are not spayed or neutered, they reproduce quickly, adding millions of puppies and kittens to the ranks of animals already in need of a good home. And when people buy animals from pet stores or breeders, homeless dogs and cats waiting at animal shelters lose a chance at finding a loving home. In addition, many animals are surrendered to shelters by families that can no longer care for them.

So … what can you do? If you're able to make the commitment to a sweet dog, cat, kitten, or puppy, ALWAYS adopt and never buy!
